What to serve for an evening wedding??????

We are having our wedding at 7 on Folly Beach and we are having some trouble deciding what to do about food, is an evening wedding to late to have a full buffet style dinner?

I wouldn't think so. My ceremony is at 5:30 with a cocktail hour from 6-6:30, and then dinner starting at 7:00. Do you think you're going to have a lot of time between ceremony and dinner start?

Well the ceremony and the reception are at the same location, the wedding will probably be short, so should be done by 7:30, so there wont really be much time between the two at all. Thanks so much for your help!

I don't think it's too late, that's about when we usually eat dinner.

I do not think it would be too late at all.I got married at 6:45 pm.  The guests probably started to arrive at the reception venue around 7:30.  We had passed horsderves (spelling?), pick table and station style reception... then another passed late night snack.

I don't think 7:30 or 8pm is late at all.  The cocktail hour at the last wedding I attended didn't start until 8; didn't actually sit down for dinner until after 9pm!  Most of your guests will eat lunch or a snack before the ceremony-many will not eat dinner since that would mean eating around 5  to get ready for a 7pm ceremony so I would suggest offering a dinner meal if not than at least heavy hors douvers (sp). Because they will most likely be hungry :)

My wedding is starting at 7 as well, and I am doing a heavy hors d'ouvres and station style reception. To me, it seems to fit the best. It gives guests an opportunity to mingle and try new dishes, while not wasting $40 per plate on guests who RSVP but do not show up.
