photo question wwyd?

ok so I found a reasonably priced photog with very beautiful pictures on the website. However they are located about 4 hours away.We have exchanged MANY MANY emails and they have let me know that they do about 30% of all of their weddings in Pittsburgh. SO my question is how many of you would even consider (or did you) picking a photog (or a vendor) without meeting them? The photos seem beautiful. The price is right.Their travel fee is not astronomical. The contract seems perfectly normal. They've answered all of my questions promptlyThey are just further away than your average trip for a consultation.wwyd?

I picked my photographer (Tony Urban) without meeting him. We exchanged tons of emails and he had great reviews both on here and on other websites, so I felt confident. We also spoke on the phone a few times.  He lives 2ish hours from Pittsburgh, so driving out to his place just for a meeting was out of the question at the time.  I think if you like the photog and you feel comfortable booking, go for it!

Can you do a phone consultation?I wouldn't have a problem with this. The worst that could happen is that they come and you think they are funny looking, but that won't change the beautiful photos.

I booked a few vendors without meeting them - didn't have any problems.Who is the photog?  Someone here might have used them!

I would've booked my photographer without meeting her first.  I just had a sense that she would be great just by looking at her website.  The only reason why I met her was to sign the contract and hand over the deposit - she just so happend to bring some portfolios with her, which just confirmed how great she really is.  So I don't think it's a problem, if you feel comfortable, I say go for it! Who is the photog?

Carden's Photography The website made me totally dig on the photos. And they have offered to have a conference call I guess I just wanted to hear about what people thought about not meeting first. Funny thought on the worst thing is they show up being funny looking.  :)

I did book my photog without meeting him.  I did the emails and website, got good vibes and went with him.  It's not a crazy idea!

As long as you feel comfortable booking them without meeting them, then that will work for you. The only concern I have is if your personalities clash or you think they are annoying, your face will show it in the pictures. Sounds like plenty of people have booked without meeting their photog though, so you should be fine!

I was really picky about the photographer and wouldn't book her until I met with her.  I wanted to know her personality, since I would be sepdnign all day with her and getting dressed in front of her.  I also wanted to see an entire set of proofs from one wedding, so that I could make sure it wasn't just a few good shots on their website.  Good luck.  Just do what's best for you.

good thought on the being annoyed.. but I don't think meeting them once can save them from forever staying off of my annoyed side. ;)I think I'll give the conference call a try make sure I feel as comfortable with them over the phone as I do in emails and then I may just go for it.

Thanks for asking this question!  I've been wondering too since I'm OOT.  The conference call sounds like a great idea.

I'd totally do it.  I'm the one out of town, so we did a phone conference.  I looked at his website and just knew i had to have him as my photog, so i'd say go for it!

I met with my photographer once before booking them. We were in town for Labor Day last year and scheduled a meeting. I had most of the info before had, and it was basically just so that we could see one complete proof set from a wedding. They were the only photogs that we met with/got pricing for, and I'm so happy that we went with them. If you feel comfortable after the phone con, ask for a website for a recent wedding (like we all have for our proofs) so that you can take a look at a full set. But, you shouldn't have anything to worry about!

Like others OOT, we did a phone meeting...did this with a few vendors, and I'm not worried about it. People can suck even if you meet them in person :)
