Rant: I want to go to bed

Fi is a volunteer firefighter. He has drill at the firehouse every Tuesday night. Right now, it's 10:00 p.m. and he's still at drill. This sucks because I have to get up early tomorrow morning so I need to get to bed at a decent time; I'm already exhausted because fi got a call in the middle of the night Sunday night that woke me up and for whatever reason I didn't sleep well last night. Once he gets home, he'll spend at least a half hour showering and doing other going to bed activities. Unfortunately, I can't fall asleep until he gets home and comes to bed because one night a year or two ago he was coming home late and I fell asleep before he came home. Around 3 a.m., I woke up and rolled over and he was standing right. there. He had come home and tiptoed into the bedroom, trying to be considerate because he was sure I'd be sleeping; instead he scared the living daylights out of me and ruined me forever when it comes to going to bed before he comes home. So, I'm annoyed, and would like him to come home oh, say, now.No real point to this, I just get sick of this firefighter stuff waking me up at all hours and keeping him out late.

  • Ambien"And you'll never remember him coming home" Wow. I should be a copywriter and write their taglines.
  • Well, once he becomes a fire fighter, think of all the sleeping in you'll be doing once you're retired and he's making 90% of his RETIRED. Plus, awesome health coverage.
  • Dawn:  It's more like. Ambien: After finding Britney Spears on your ringtone, you'll wonder what else you did last night.
  • Boo. That can't be good for your sleep schedule. Maybe when he comes home, he can turn on a light so that if you do wake up, you'll know it's him?

  • If only, MissSarah, if only. He gets paid per call as a volunteer, but it's not much. I think $6 a call. It's not a full-time gig. He volunteers outside of his regular job. No retirement, no benefits.
  • dawn and anna those both made me giggle.
  • Perseids meteor shower is tonight, it might a darn good way to stay occupied if you're stuck awake anyway.
  • If he hoping to become a firefighter?
  • Ooh fun game, Anna...Ambien, when he comes first and falls asleep.
  • One time, FI put on his full Darth Vader suit (see bio for example) when I fell asleep on the couch. He woke me up in the complete darkness by "igniting" his light saber, complete with whooshy sound. I jump about a mile in the air and screamed like an idiot for at least three minutes. So, I understand your trepidation about falling asleep before him.

  • MissSarah, no. He's been volunteer since he was 18. Just really likes doing it. That's why I rant here instead of bugging him about, he'd feel bad for doing it. He is a Mechanical Engineer and works full time as an engineer. Firefighting would only be an option if he lost his job and in no way could find a position as an engineer. His dream is something in R&D.
  • I'l pretend to know what R&D means. His job doesn't provide him with good benefits as an engineer?
  • bel that is effing hilarious.Anna, "Ambien, when the neighbors have a better sex life than you do."
  • Research and Development.May I have a cookie...Don't ask me what it means beyond that.
  • Someone fill me in on this "Ambien" crap.
  • Ambien is known for some pretty terrible side effects. Like, driving while sleeping, being pulled over by the cops, and finally coming to and having no flucking clue where you are and what you're doing. They also thought it caused weight gain, until it turns out that people get up in the middle of the night and eat everything in the fridge while sleeping.

  • MissSarah, yes, his full-time career job gives him full benefits. The volunteering, however, is just that: volunteering. He does it outside of his career/full-time job purely for enjoyment. Not every town pays for calls, this one just happens to. No benefits come with being a volunteer.
  • Wonderful of all wonderful! Fi is finally home and on his way to bed. Goodnight ladies!
  • I tried Ambien once. I had a great night of sleep! Except that I have no recollection of changing my ring tone, calling over 40 people, putting a pizza in the oven but not turning it on and breaking my ankle doing only God knows what. I hear it works great for some peoplr
  • OMG Anna, it just gives me six good hours of konked out sleep. No talking, no walking, no ringtoning, no eating. No more than six though. Took one the night before the wedding. BlissFULL.
  • The thing is.  Are you SURE you don't do thing while you're asleep? You can't be sure.  What if you sleepwalk to the bathroom at 3am for a 20 minute nose-picking session?'' I'm not taking that risk again.  But then, I have major sleep issues anyway
