Giving my final headcount today!

So, my venue suggested that once I get the final count, to add 10 to it so that I would have an extra table just in case, people would have more freedom to move tables.I'm hesitant to do this first because obviously it will add more cost but second because people have told me that people who rsvp'd yes will not show up.So I am just wondering how everyone else's experience has been when estimating the final headcount?  Should I add an extra table?  Or will no shows and unexpected additions really just even out in the end?

Check with your vendor see what their policy is first as far as people showing who didn't rsvp works. I know that at the Omni they said they would get my final count two weeks prior to the wedding and that if anyone showed that did not RSVP they would have to serve them and that it would be and additional 50 which is what they're charging PP anyway. If thats how your venue or caterer works Iould just give the final head count of the ones who did RSVP so that you wont have all those additional costs especially if 10 people dont show.

That's a really good question and I am wondering the same thing. I wish I could help, I just wanted to keep this post alive if anyone else has any thoughts.

Hm I think it is a common practice for some caterers to ask you do that just to make sure there is enough food for those unexpected guests or last minute add ons. My question would be if you don't end up using all the food you buy do you get a say in what happens to it?

My caterer actually told me to provide food for less!!! Now I am second guessing her!! She said if you are expecting 300, provide food for about 275 because a lot of those people don't show up?? How 'bout this, Marisa39...let's get everyone to reply and vote on what you and other girls in this situation should do...please help Knotties!!!1) add 10 more plates2) take away 10 plates from your RSVP count3) reserve as many plates as RSVPsThanks! You guys rock!Allison

Ok so I think this is what I decided to do -As far as tables, I added 1 extra (seats 10) due to the fact that we are not having assigned seating and there may be some odd numbered people that sit at different tables. For the catering, I will give them a count of 10 less to account for children who probably won't eat as much.
