For me it was important to have this gold Indian prayer lamp. You don't light it all the time, but it's something most houses have, looks like:

Mine doesn't have the bird on top. It's just a plain top. They aren't actually gold just imitation. I found mine for relatively cheap.

It depends on what type of person she is on if she would like something like this.

Is she religious (stemming off of DFW's post), because if she has a favorite God/Goddess, then that might be an avenue to look down?

What about tickets for her and her husband somewhere?

DFWIndian:::::I love the prayer lamp idea, i don't remember seeing her have one...i know my MIL does though. Something like this could work great....

kpwedkk :::::we pray to Sai Baba....maybe i could get her a Ganesha statue... Kinda want to avoid going the couple gift route. It seems a lot of the focus has been on him so i really want to get her something for her...make her feel special :)

Is there a good gift site you would recommend????

    Hi Jessie -
If you have a Cost Plus World Market, it's an excellent place to start. They do have a website: http://www.worldmarket.com/home/index.jsp and the items in their store changes from week to week....

I would check with antique stores, or if there is an Indian town near you, check out to see what they have... I believe in Chicago there are some stores.

As for the internet, always  check the dimensions, and what the statue is made out of...

http://lotus-sculpture.stores.yahoo.net/ganesh-hindu-god-lord-ganapati-ganesha-remover-obstacles-elephant-statue.html (keep scrolling down, the prices get better)

Also, Amazon.com - just type in "Ganesh Statue" and loads of results pop up ;):)

    here's one example: http://www.amazon.com/Ganesh-Mall-AR1002-Brass-Statue/dp/B001IUPCAE

    Hope that helps!
