Check with RSVP?

So I have been getting RSVPs back and I just got one today that they rsvped that they can not come, but they put a check in it. Is that normal? I don't even know what to think, I am so befuddled.

I don't see anything unusual here? DH and I have given wedding gift checks with our decline response in the past. We also received checks from guests who could not attend.

Nothing weird with that at all. It's customery to send a gift (usually not too large) along with a decline. So I would just cash the check and send a thank you.

Oh, ok. I had never heard of this, so I was a little confused when I got it. To me it seems weird. If I couldn't go I would just send a card separate from the RSVP.

To me it seems weird. If I couldn't go I would just send a card separate from the RSVP. How it that weird?  I assume the person is not that close that you?  In that situation, it's kind of awkward getting the B&G a gooey wedding card.  Plus, it saves postage and trees.
