Hi there!

I am finally jumping into message boards. I just got engaged last Friday after the Opera in the city. My wedding is June 18th 2011. So I'm planning quickly! So excited. My good friend Sara Norris said to send kisses to everyone in the Pittsburgh Board. She is the one that directed me to this site. I have the ceremony location, officiant, 99% sure about the reception, and going dress shopping this Saturday. Things are rolling along. Meeting with the preacher this Friday evening. :) So happy to be here and find loads of ideas/advice.

Welcome to the boards!  Planning quickly is the way to go, I think.  I think I could probably plan a wedding in 2 weeks flat (assuming vendors were available).

    Thanks for the welcomes!
I have the church and preacher as I said, then I have to meet with the banquet manager about the reception. I'm hoping for a little deal since I used to work there and he told me years ago If you get married and use us I'll cut you a deal. Hoping it's a good one! I have around 120 on the list and 100 of those were just family. Fiance has a large mother's side and I have a large father's side that are just aunt's, uncle's cousins, and their children. Feb. 19th I'm meeting with the guy.

I'm going dress shopping this Saturday with my mum. We're hitting up Greensburg and then if I don't find anything venturing our way towards Pittsburgh. (I'm 50 miles east of Pittsburgh) :) I like old-fashioned style, think jane austen or poofy/fluffy for dresses. I know I have no clue what will look good on me. I'm 5'2 3/4 and 140lbs.  Hoping to shed a few lbs. I am petite and small bones. I'm game to try on anything. Have to print out pics to take tomorrow. I want an old-fashioned/catholic looking veil. Think beads and lace and just lays on the middle of your head and cascades down your hair. Just medium length. I'm thinking I'll get long curls in my hair. I have long hair down to the middle of my back and slightly below. Not sure if I'm going to go blonder with highlights or keep some dark in. I'm naturally a brunette.

My colors are Lilly Pulitzer pink and green. I want the bridesmaids to get LP dresses in the colors. As a personal touch they will wear cowboy boots. Fiance is country and it would make him smile. For the groomsmen I haven't decided. I am in love with vests and white shirts. If a navy vest would look right with the BM dresses then that'd be ideal. Think sort of vintagey.

The reception hall is rustic but with a chic aspect to it. It is an old barn and used to be one of my favorite restaurants.

We have a church friend DJing for the reception. I have my cousin playing trumpet, the church organist on the organ, and my auntie on her bagpipes for the ceremony.

Our honeymoon is paid for and given as a gift. We'll be going to Bar Harbor Maine. The house is right on the ocean. I have family up there as well.

Not sure about flowers and small decorations and photography.

I want to have a super informal "photo booth" with goofy props where people can use them or dress up and take pics. Just a fun little touch.

For favors I'll give out homemade jam in canning jars with our name on them.

    Still looking for a house....

wow, looks like you have a ton of ideas/details taken care of.  I'm no good at figuring out how those colors would look together, but I'm sure you can find inspiration boards online that help you figure things out.

Definitely try on all styles of dresses - lots of people are surprised by what they actually like when it's on them.  I never thought I'd get lace in a dress, but I loved it once I tried lace dresses on.

also, I think the veil style you are going for is called a drop veil - it's what I want as well.  You can get them for pretty cheap at Occansey Designs (occanseydesigns.com) or veilshop.com
