Pavilion

Hi there! I'm planning an indoor reception, following a ceremony under a pavilion by a lake. It has a concrete floor, and is 28' square with brick pillars. We're planning on renting ivory folding chairs. I'm a little stumped about decorating the area. I've tried searching for images of other pavilion weddings, but haven't found much. We're hoping to fit close to 100 people, and an aisle, so I think it'll be pretty tight. Also, there won't be room on the outside of the pavilion to seat people without walking in the aisle... Unless they have to walk in the gravel beside it. Anyway, any insight or suggestions for pavilion decorations or strategies would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Pavilion

  • Maybe you could hang paper lanterns around the outside of the pavilion or make pomanders to line the aisle with. GL!
  • You could try simple draping from the ceiling using gossamer, paper lanterns, white streamers, tulle along inside of aisle if you want to discourage people from walking down the aisle to their seats (are you having ushers?), or tulle across the entrance to the aisle until it is time for the ceremony to begin,
  • I would keep it simple. I think sometimes people take away from the natural setting by decorating too much. Maybe just hang poms from the chairs or line the aisle with potted plants. Our ceremony was in front of a gazebo and we did nothing but have a flower arrangement for the register table inside the gazebo and a flower vase hanging from a shepherd hook on either side of the aisle.
  • I agree with you about over decorating. I don't want it to look gaudy, and we're already planning on having a table with the guestbook type stuff on it (to cover up two mounted charcoal grills). We are having ushers, equipped with theme matching umbrellas in case it rains. We plan on having them escort people from their cars to the pavilion if necessary. I like the idea of lights and draped fabric on the ceiling, but how could I end the fabric at the bottom of the roof so it doesn't look strange? I want to avoid having too much that'll blow around in the wind. I wonder how wide the side aisles would have to be? The more I think about it, the more I want to keep the center aisle to myself and the WP. There are soooo many things to consider... Arg.
  • Try google image "ceiling draping" and it will come up with several ways that you can drape your fabric. I don't know much about it but if you finish it with the ends flowing down the pillars you could attach them or wrap them around that way.
