Poll: Words of Wisdom

I know most of us are not married yet but, it's my belief that after we're done with every project along every step of the wedding planning way we learn something. Care to share any words of wisdom? I learned... 1.) No one will ever care about your wedding as much as you do, so don't stress if your BM's aren't super excited about which paper you're using. The 80 pound or the 115 2.) Sometimes DIY isn't always cheaper. 3.) Read, read, read ALL your contracts!

    It's so not even funny how many times I have heard #1. I've also come to realize it.

    GOOD & SMART POLL!!!!!! 1. While the Knot is an EXCELLENT resource, there are hundreds (thousands...??) of vendors out there. Use everything you have to make sure you are getting the best vendor FOR YOU! 2. Don't choose colors too early. I'm fairly certain I would change my colors if I could, but it's just too late. I love my color scheme but I love everything else too, lol. 3. Uplighting & draping is gorgeous - but if you can't afford it, don't cry. (like I did, lol)

    Great poll! Here's the pearl I'm sharing: Your wedding is not a contest. Don't let anyone convince you that you HAVE to have certain things. Have the best wedding that works for YOU.

    1) Don't compare your wedding to anyone else's. Everyone has different tastes and budgets. Plan the best wedding for YOU and YOUR wallet. 2) Do not stress out too much about 1000% accomodating your guests. Most of them are adults that will figure out their own way to get back and forth from the airport. You are not responsible for paying for everything for them if it's not in your budget.  
    TTC since May 2011 "Natural" BFP 1/2/2012 with cp 1/5/2012 5/2012: SA and CD 3 bloodwork perfect 6/2012: Clomid + Trigger + TI = BFN 8/2012: HSG all clear. Clomid TI cycle canceled due to thin lining 9/2012: Lap and Hysteroscopy: mild endo, uterine fibroids and septum, and ovarian cyst all removed

    Dont get too many people involved in major decisions. From personal experience, NO good can come from 30 family member's input on things. TRUST ME. Make sure your vendors are aware of your expectations before you book. I am quite sure all of my vendors are more than aware that I am anal, like prompt responses and have xyz expected of them. It will make for smooth communication.

    This is a neat post!  Thanks, Lorena.I will definitely follow this thread.  Let's see . . . -Don't let vendors sell you something if you don't want it or need it.-Ask a lot of questions when dealing with vendors-Ditto #1!

    Remember its your wedding not your parents social gathering party. *if a vendor doesn't give you good vibes don't pick them! Trust your gut!

    Try not to second guess your choices too much, there is a reason you fell in love with something in the first place. Its easy to get discouraged when you see someone elses ideas (I know I do it all the time and want to change my mind), but then I think, thats right for that person and I admire their choices and taste and know we cant all have the same wedding!

    very good poll! I would say to not be afraid to tell your vendors "NO, I don't want that". While they have good input and experience, they don't really know you, or your style.

    On the married side of things...(1) Realize that while not all the details will be noticed, many will and be appreciated.  Choose your projects carefully... for example, I am glad I took the time on making nice OOT bags, but didn't make menus.(2) Read your contracts AND hold them to them.  Verbal agreements mean NOTHING!!!!  Make them put it in the contract.(3) Follow your gut about vendors.  If you feel like you might not get the best service - move on.

    As a recent budget bride ... :)- Don't feel like your wedding won't be as good just because you're on a budget or see other girls spending much larger amounts of money on things- (re-iterating someone else's words) No one will care as much about your wedding as you do!- Try not to stress as much as possible... & enjoy your time with your FI! He will only be your FI for a certain amount of time in your lives :)- Research about your venue before you choose it - along with other major details: i.e., color scheme, food, etc.
