Is anyone NOT trying to loose weight for their wedding?

I'm pretty average size and people keep asking me what my pre-wedding fitness/diet routine is. UMM...nothing- I want to look like myself at my wedding!

I know a lot of brides do this, but I've been to weddings where the bride lost like 20 lbs & didn't even look like herself. I want to look back at my pictures & be able to recognize myself (especially since most brides I know who did this gained most if not all of it back after the wedding).

Just wanted to see if anyone else feels this way?

Re: Is anyone NOT trying to loose weight for their wedding?

  • If I lost weight I'd disappear, or pass out at the wedding for malnutrition. If anything, I'm trying to put on a couple pounds so I can better fill out the top part of my dress.
  • I totally get what you are saying....i work out regularly so I am just going on with my same routine.
  • I understand what you mean but for me, I don't look like myself in the body I'm in now. I'm looking to lose about 30 pounds because it's honestly a better range for me. I just don't feel like myself with this added weight :( I used to LOVE, LOVE my body, but I stopped taking care of it like I needed to. My wedding is the motivation I need to get back on track :)
  • I'm trying to gain weight....does that count?

  • I'm just trying to tone up a little. I've actually been gaining weight because of the birth control I'm on. But losing weight would be incredibly unhealthy for me. My BMI is way below normal, and my doctors are always telling me to eat more. If I ate any more my stomach would probably explode! I eat all the time! haha.
  • If you asked me a year ago, I wouldn't be trying to loose weight.  Now though, while I'm average, you can really see the 10 pounds I've gained in my face and arms.  So, I would like to loose it, but I will definitely still look like myself if I do.
  • as much as I would love to lose 5 pounds and be able to stay at 130 instead of bouncing between 130 and 139, it's not going to happen. and I have my dress already, and it fits almost perfectly (a little big in the bust) so I'm afraid if I lose any weight it will be too big.
  • I have some curves that I'm pretty stoked on.  I keep telling myself that as i get closer i'll tone up, but, i'm pretty satisfied, and i hate wroking out and dieting.  I'll probably continue embracing my curves and enjoy my body on my wedding day.
  • I don't want to go crazy losing for the same reasons... I want to look like myself not a skeleton version of myself. But with that said, I do want to tone up. I haven't been sticking to my workouts since the holidays and I need to get my arms and lags back to where they were. I think putting so much pressure on losing weight just adds more stress and takes away from something that should be a happy time.
  • I'm not going to lose weight. I'm average too, and I think even if I did try to lose weight the most I could lose is maybe 15-20 lbs and well it just seems damn silly to stress myself out MORE with a new diet and what not then to just say "Hey here's me" after all my fiance feel in love with me as I am right now, why go through all the hoops to change that for one day?

I am however quitting smoking for my wedding day. I'll be starting March 22nd on that road yay!

  • I had to get a corset to go under- to add bulk so I am definitely not trying to lose weight or my dress will be too loose. haha my first dress fitting took 3+ hours- I thought I was going to pass out!
  • I "maintained". When I went dress shopping, the sample dress of the one I chose fit me perfectly (Aside from needed a hem), the bodice was extremely structured, so I knew letting it in or out would cost me a lot of money I didn't want to spend.

  • I am a trainer, so I maintain my weight well and I eat very well... a month before the wedding I will probably eat better and do more cardio.  My weight will probably stay the same... but I will feel better and feeling great will automatically make you look great!  So, just do what makes you feel the best!

  • If you are comfortable with the way you look, don't listen to anyone else.  It's your day.  However, if you are going on your honeymoon to some place that will require a lot of walking, you might want to start getting a little exercise so you won't be winded. lol
  • No weight loss or gain here, I'm eating the same as I always have, and working out the same as I always have, I'm generally an 8-10, I ordered my gown that way. my fiance fell in love with me that way. Why change it? I want my kinds to look at the pictures someday and see Mommy and Daddy not some scary looking dressed up lady who might be Mommy!!!! Don't get me wrong, I want to look fabulous, I'll get my hair and makeup done and do trials to make sure its all perfect, but I also want to look like the woman I am and will continue to be for the rest of my life- drastic diets are just silly- )unless dr. reccomended and helth related because otherwise you may not be around to get married- lets be clear here!) If you are a normal healthy woman, be it thing, "average" or full figured- remember who your FI fell in love with- and stay true to who you are!
  • wow- I should have spell checked- that was supposed to be thin not thing! Yikes! Sorry ladies!
  • I am not trying to lose weight, but I am a little concerned about gaining it.

I joke with FI that I don't want to look my best on my wedding day - I want to look better after so that people who see the photos will say "wow, you look even better now than you did then!"

  • im not trying to lose weight, but i am really in need of some toning.
besides, my dress fits perfectly- so i cant lose any or ill need to pay for alterations!
  • im with you!! I have had my dress fitting...and i plan on maintaining my weight , so that it will fit perfect.

I have never had weight problems though.

best way to maintain my weight...is keeping with my normal eating habits and lack of exercise :-)

  • I'm not trying to lose weight anymore (I've lost 90 lbs. in 5 years), I'm just trying to keep doing what I'm doing for the health of it, not for the weight.

If I look good and I feel good, I'm happy!
But I am trianing for a 1/2 marathon - so I'll probably gain a bit from training for that.
  • Not losing weight here, or gaining. Or trying to do either. I'm just me.

I have started doing a little more yoga than I used to, mainly because it'll never make me smaller- it's a "toning" exercise- and because with all of the stress in my life lately I NEED it! But that's it. No big workouts, no starving myself, none of that.

  • I have the body of a thirteen year old!  so i got my dress 0 petite.  Now this is the first time in my life that I've been afraid to gain weight because my wedding is so far away and I don't wanna pay for alterations! I got a bike for Christmas, so 2-3 times a week I ride my bike to work and my classes (and I'm taking a yoga class). I'm still the same weight, but my calves look AMAZING!!!!  haha.  I'm proud seeing my body more toned but I'd be happy no matter what on my wedding day no matter how I end up looking because I'm marrying one hot guy who thinks I'm hot!
  • It took 8 months of hard work for me to gain 15 pounds - I'm not going to try to loose it!  People tell me I look a lot better now, so I want to stay this way.  I'm trying to maintain my weight, which is hard sometimes because when I'm stressed, I don't eat.
  • I am not doing anything to gain or lose weight. My wedding is a week away and I have had 2 candy bars today...lol :D

People, including my mom,  ask me all the time what I am going to do to lose weight for the wedding. I am happy with myself and my fiance loves my body and that is all that matters to me. I am not losing weight to make everyone else happy on my wedding day. I am 5'4" and weight about 130 give or take a few depending on the day.

I'm also trying to gain weight for my wedding. I was trying to gain about 4 or 5 pounds while I was at college(I was 115), but now that I'm done, and back home I lost 7 more pounds (108)! Not good! I already had my dress fitted back when I was 115, so I really, really want to get back to at least that.
The thing is, I am eating, I just can't seem to put on weight. I'm even eating fattening food, with lots of butter and chocolate etc... any suggestions on what to do?

Eat at least one donut a day.  Drink chocolate milk or something else with calories instead of water.  Eat a bedtime snack even if you're not hungry.
  • Yes!!  I'm completely with you Sarah-Jean!  I'm hoping not to gain any weight, and I am trying to eat a little healthy, but I am NOT trying to lose weight simply because I'm getting married.  I'm happy the way I am and want to look like myself!
