12 days before my surgery, i get a letter in the mail from bcbs of fl... they dropped me. im going to go die now.

    WHAT!!!! I have bcbs and have had two surgery with them. Have you been paying accordingly? What is your surgery on? I think there is some stuff on your contract that should favor you!

    how can they just DROP you? Is that possible if you are on an insurance plan?Is it an individual plan? Is it through your job? Is that even legal?

    1) They sent me a letter saying they want to provide the best service but at this time cannot cover me anymore 2) its private insurance that i pay up the arse for. 3) im on the phone (after working a fecking 14 hr shift) with them trying to sort it all out. i hope its a mix up...

    I'm enraged. This is EXACTLY why the new health care plan is so important. All those people who think that the new health care plan is a bad idea need to look at a situation like this... THIS IS WHY WE NEED UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE!

    this has been a HUGE issue lately. insurance companies dropping people who are undergoing, surgeries, and/or pregnant. a few months ago i was watching it on the today show at work...

    I am so sorry to hear but make sure try to find your contract. I have became and ind member of bcbs last june/july had a surgery in Oct then one in April of this year and I still have coverage. What plan do you have? I strongly believe that they cannot just drop you... maybe give you a grace period but if you have insurance and pay on time you have rights!

    Wow.  Insurance companies make me so upset!  Are you on the phone with the insurance company or the hospital?  You should demand they refund you all the money you've been paying for "insurance."  I hope you sort it out.

    thx ladies. ive been with bcbs since i was a kid on my parents insurance. i dont get it? i pay on time... $500 every two months is A LOT of money... granted ive already met my deductible this year (have for a while) but thats expected, right? thats what u do... blah. they are saying the dont understand whats going on either? i have a debit for $500 for aug 1st out of my bank and they r saying they have nothing? hopefully this is all just a payment mix up and nothing more. thnx for ur support. im starting to really worry about what this surgery outcome is going to be : but at least i have a FI who brings me chocolate ice cream :D lol and i agree about the health care system. i had someone the other day go, "I dont want to pay for someone elses health care!" i just looked at them wonky... hi... medicare/medicaid? last i check... we paid for them and they didnt pay for us! but what do i know?

    I think this country needs a change in mentality.  Everyone is out for their own interest, mostly obvious with our huge corporations.  There is no sense of a common benefit.  This is ridiculous.

    I hope this is just a billing mix up. It sucks that they send you the letter on Friday and then won't talk to you until Monday. I hope this all works out for you and soon!I hate insurance companies too!

    I'm so sorry...please please keep us updated. It's so unfair that our medical care and well being can sometimes come down to what is profitable for a company. BLAH. I agree with everyone and am hoping that this is some kind of kooky mix up! Prayers and vibes your way!

    My mom eats, sleeps and breathes insurance. I just told her your situation and she said that if you paid for august, there is a 30 day grace period because it covers you for the following month so it is B$. She said you should be able to give them some sort of confirmation number or something proving your paid up to date to sort this out. I'm SO sorry this happening to you.     omg Tess I'm so sorry to hear this!! Horrible...and crappy that you have to wait until Monday to hear anything.  Let us know...knottie vibes it all works out!! And if it doesn't....I know this might sound crazy, but I'm a huge fan of GMA (Good Morning America) and they do segments from time to time on how insurance companies, the government, companies, etc. are screwing people, and usually they wind up getting a favorable response back.  You could always write them or a local news channel and tell them your story, just a thought :)

    Tess-  I work for UnitedHealthcare and your insurace carrier cannot legally drop you until your renewal comes around.  Renewal is once a year.  Did your renewal come out? If it did they have the right to drop you.  Also, I think what might have happened is a billing error.  They might have not processed your payment properly.  Let me know if you need any help cinthian22 @ yahoo dot com.

    I faxed over my bank statement. for some reason it took them TWELVE... TWELVE days to process my ON TIME payment. W.T.F? My acct is still inactive, though? I spoke with the supervisor ... bc they said my acct was cxled on 7/1/2009 but the letter i got was dated.... ready for this?: AUGUST 6TH. I pay them bi-monthly. ::head into desk:: Also, if I was to go into the hospital today... they'd still cover me, but I'd have to pay out-of-pocket first? Oh how our health care system needs a face lift. i. dont. get. it. and i didnt think they could "legally" drop you. but really, what large companies do ANYTHING legal anymore? they dont give a sh*t.
