Cake Cost

I'm beginning to look at the cost of cakes. What has been everyones experience with the cost of cake in the Denver area? Are they priced by tiers or number of slices? Has anyone found a bakery that they can recommend? Thanks.

We were looking for a large cake to feed about 100 people, weren't particularly concerned about the appearance (we were even open to a sheet cake since we were having a super cool "cutting cake" made by a friend) and found Indulge Bakery in Lafayette and have been awed! We are doing a very large lemon poppyseed round cake with lemon curd and raspberry yummyness filling, 1 tier, feeding about 100 people and are paying about $100. We were very pleased at the tasting and booked on the spot.I know they charge more for additional tiers and extensive decorating but seemed pretty reasonable overall. Other bakeries I would recommend are Spruce St. Confections, Tee & Cakes, and if you are looking for a small funky cake (or several) I would call Julia at The Southside Walnut Cafe. They are all in Boulder but I know the other Knotties have some great Denver suggestions. Good luck!

most places I have gone to charge by the slice and how complex your cake is.  I'm getting married in Co Spgs so my cake rec probably won't help you, but we are using Creative Cakes by Carol

I used Amy's Unique Cakes and it was $205 for a cake for 75 people. We thought it turned out perfect

It really does depend on the detail of work, but each bakery will have a "minimum" cost per slice (even if they don't tell you up front). Honestly, I would get a few suggestions of bakeries, make sure they can make what you want, then go test (and taste) drive them. Not only does the cake need to taste good in your opinion, you need to feel comfortable with the baker(s), just like with any vendor.

Cakes by Karen made our cake IDENTICAL to the picture I gave them, and made a much more yummy cake than the other bakeries we sampled for about $50-$70 cheaper.

Maybe you should think about cupcakes for the wedding. I work at a cupcakery in Parker. I am doing cupcakes from there for my wedding next year. They are so cool and doing cupcakes seems to be becoming another option. I know there are other cupcakeries that you can go to that are closer. YOu might want to go that way with a budget.
