Well now

So, I just got back from a wedding. I'm friends with the groom and bride, the groom was actually my highschool boyfriend. The following is for your amusement:My feet are freaking killing me because I got to stand in heels, in grass, for an hour because they only had 50 chairs for 150 guests at an outdoor ceremony. I gave the bride a ton of stuff left over from our wedding to use at theirs. Our styles were pretty similar and she was using the same colors. I could have sold these things, but told her if she wanted to use them they were hers. She ended up taking about $300 worth of things, which I was fine with because they're friends. None of it was at the wedding. They closed the (cash) bar during dinner service for about an hour and a half, so if you wanted a glass of wine with dinner you were SOL (obviously this doesn't affect me directly, but H was not a happy camper).Someone caught wind of the cash bar and stocked a cooler, so about a dozen people spent most of the night out in the parking lot drinking. The bride had a man of honor, and he carried a ring bearer pillow down the aisle.

Re: Well now

  • I feel bad for the man of honor.  I bet he looked like a doofus.

  • A doofus is the perftect word! I would also ask for your things back, so you can sell them :)

  • Stupid knot...I kind of hope she'll offer to give me the things back on her own. I don't want to seem petty by asking for them back, but why take stuff if you aren't going to do anything with it?Oh, and this was really strange. The reception was at a concert hall, and the head table was on the stage, with a spotlight on it.

  • Eh, I'm only 3 months. There were some really pregnant women there, elderly people, and a lot of people with small children who got the chairs. One girl looked about 8 months along, the chairs were all taken but luckily someone had a lawn chair in their trunk she could use. It was kind of ridiculous.

  • Sounds incredibly tacky.Carrying a ring pillow!  I considered having a Man of Honor.  And I was actually going to have him carry the rings too until I remembered my cute little 7 yr old neighbor, but not on a pillow... like in his pocket or something less bizarre.
  • Someone had to go get her a chair? noone would offer theirs? Always have chairs... Although at T's sisters wedding we didnt have but a few chairs but it was just the close family and friends (about 20 of us) and we knew about this ahead of time and didn't mind as it was fairly quick...
  • I know nda! I wouldn't have cared so much if I had gotten a heads up and picked some different shoes (or brought my own lawn chair). No one giving up their seat for the pg chick was messed up, someone could have put a kid in their lap or something.

  • Why would a cash bar shut down?? And poor dufus.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Exactly. I was brought up to always give up my seat for someone older, pregnant or disabled...I can't imagine..Guess they should've BYOC the invites haha
  • Sascha, our theory is they didn't want to pay for extra staff to run the bar and buffet simultaneously. That's the only reason that makes any sense to us, even though it's still stupid.lol, BYOC. I love it!

  • Oh wow, that's bad. So basically they decided that it was okay that 2 in 3 guests had to stand? Not cool. Someone's not a knottie! I have a hard time coming down on bars. My parents insisted on a partially hosted bar no matter who was paying, even though I don't agree. But shutting down the bar completely is pretty ridiculous, no matter who's paying for drinks. And I would definitely ask for your stuff back. I can understand if she decided to go another direction, but it would have been nice if she'd told you so.

  • The grown man carrying a ring bearer pillow reminds me of Tom Hanks in Big.If you have a Facebook account, you could always post a message like, "LPSTL has crazy foot pain today..."
  • Oh man that sucks. I would want my crap back for sure! You should keep this story so when people don't want to rent chairs, etc you can just paste it in.
