I DO....(vent & LONG)

So I had my appointment at I Do Bridal this morning...and I have mixed feelings.  I found some dresses that I really liked, but I felt kinda pushed by the consultant as she was taking dresses back that I specifically pulled.  Ie: this one: http://tinyurl.com/m34yw5. I just wanted to see what it was like.  I am looking for a dress that is elegant, but fun and different.  This is different for sure.It was really disappointing that the dress I LOVED they didn't have in my size, or even close to my size.  (I couldn't even pull it over the girls!)  I mean, yes I’m a bigger girl, but seriously…you only have this popular style dress in a size 6?  It was a great way to make me feel pretty and good about myself.Next, I get that they are a popular shop and not very big, but there were dresses that I really wanted to try on and couldn't because I ran out of time.  When they say 1 hour, they mean it.  I didn’t even get to get the designer names or styles because they pulled the rest of the dresses out of my room and had another girl putting them back before I even realized it happened. LI did find a dress that I liked quite a bit (it wasn't in my size, couldn't even zip up at all in the back so it was hard to gauge what the whole look would look like) but it was the only one in that style that I tried on.  I had pulled many more in similar fabric but didn't get to them.   This is it: http://tinyurl.com/ndv5wr   I just feel like I keep getting a sour taste in my mouth with each place I go…I thought dress shopping was supposed to be a great experience that is fun and exciting…so far it has not been the case!!   Ok. Vent over.  Now I need your help: I know someone (I can’t remember who) really like All That Shimmers…my parents live in Lakewood so that is convenient.  What did you like about it?   Does anyone know of a store that cares lots of samples in bigger sizes (I am street 16) ?  I tried David’s in southcenter and it was a horrible experience.  Also, I didn’t really love and/or like anything that I tried on.  Nothing on their current website catches my eye either.   Has anyone been to the Wedding Bell in Tacoma?  My make-up artist recommended it, but I know that its popular much like I Do and I know that I don’t want to be rushed out in a hour again.   Any other stores I should try or advice would be really helpful!! Thanks in advance!!Ps. Im sorry I don't know how to make the links clicky!

I am not sure that I am totally following your post... it sounds like it was mostly that the dress didn't fit? I am not a small girl either and found that a lot of the stores have smaller sizes but nothing I tried on there was that small, maybe they have something that is bigger and almost the same kind of dress? When I was dress shopping I had a great experience at I Do. The girl who helped me (Alicia) was so sweet and knew exactly what would look good on me which actually wasn't the dress I went in to try on! I went back a few times and noticed that during the week was a lot less busy than the weekends and every time I had really nice people help me. Maybe you can stay longer on a weekday? Maybe ask for Bridget or Alicia, they have been awesome! Just an FYI, when I ordered my dress I had to go up two sizes from what I usually wear since the wedding dresses run small. It sucks and nobody had warned me beforehand so just a head's up so you don't get upset about it. They made it really no big deal but I was a little bummed out at first and you may want to be up front with the other places you go about what you are looking for so that you don't waste time if they don't have anything. I really liked I Do the best and bought there but I also had good experiences at Victoria's Bridal on Aurora and The Bridal Garden in Kirkland. Those three were my favorites and had the best service. My dress is a Maggie Sorreto too! I love the way it fits and gives me a waist! Good luck, hope you find the perfect dress and it gets less stressful for you!

Sorry you have had such a poor experience. I don't have any advice for you. I haven't even started looking for a dress.

Alfred Angelo near Southcenter Mall! They have sizes at least up to 20, I believe over that as well, and a lot! They are also having a big sale, it ends tomorrow, but check it out! Thats where I just got mine!

I have been to All that Shimmers and the Wedding Belle and both of the stores were awesome! Excellent customer service, beautiful showrooms, and a wide variety of dresses! They are only a 15 minute drive away from eachother so if you have the time, I would recommend checking them out!

So sorry you had a bad experience at I Do.  Mine was fantastic and I couldn't be happier with the styles Bridget had me try (ones that I wouldn't have considered before but looked great on me).  I went to All That Shimmers with a friend who bought her dress from there and the ladies there were really nice.  If you do check out Alfred Angelo, I will just warn that I've heard hit-and-miss experiences there with service.

hello ahuette, sorry about your bad experience. I am bigger than you and i had THE BEST experience at I Do Bridal. Bridget helped me try on all sorts of dress, none of which were in my size but she made them 'fit'. Most places don't carry bigger sizes so you gotta pull them over and pull the back tight and see what it looks like. You should beable to get a general idea. You should try Pearls and Lace, they have a bunch of 14/16 dresses that I can think of. I really like all that Shimmers. I didn't really have good help there but they have a lot of dresses and I noticed a lot of them were bigger sizes. I tried on probably 4 dresses that were actually my size and a bunch more that were 14 and above. I would definately try them out. They are a store that you should bring a friend though. When I went in there was a man there and a woman that was hilarious but not that helpful. Good luck, don't despair, your dress is out there. Keep trying!

I'm so sorry you had such a rotten experience! I really liked Pearls and Lace, you don't need an appointment there and they don't rush you at all. However, they don't give you a dedicated consultant so if you really need that one on one experience, somewhere else would be better. It was the 6th place I went so by that time, I had a good idea of what I liked and didn't need the attention (my sister and FMIL were there, too to help).

Sorry about your experience. I'm a big girl and I had a great time at I Do. Like Sara's consultant, mine also "fit" me into dresses that were much smaller. Unfortunately for us bigger girls, it's hard to find stores that carry our size. Most samples sizes are in the 8-10 range, but you're really just trying them on to get an idea of the dress. The problem with I Do is that it is a small store, so in order to accomodate all the people that want to shop there, they must keep appointments to an hour. It's a very popular salon. I would suggest a week day, when they may have more wiggle room to let you look at dresses longer. You might run into that at many stores on the weekends though, so weekdays are propbably best.

Thanks for all of the suggestions girls.  I will probably try All That Shimmers next.  I don't really need a consultant, just lots of dresses. :)Also, for the record: my consultant at I Do did "fit" me into quiet a few dresses, but there were a fair number that I couldn't even get on at all, which was quiet disappointing and frustrating.  After taking a day to cool down and night to sleep on it, I realize she was doing her job so it wasn't her fault, but it was still frustrating.

Go to Amanda's Bridal Boutique in Redmond. The girls there are super nice, help you pick out things that will look great on you, and I was able to try on a lot, and I'm a street 16, too. :) Really, it's great. They're very accomodating and nice! Their prices are great, too. The shop is small, but they've got a wide selection of dresses. :)http://www.amandasbridalboutique.com

I feel like I am obligated to tell you that a fam. member of mine owns All That Shimmers and you shouldnt order anything from there. They are having problems with money and I am afraid that if you order something and they go under then you will be left in the dust. If you find your dress in your size and can take it home with you that day then go for it but don't order. Both my MOH and I both found our dresses within the last couple weeks at David's Bridal and they were both designer dresses on sale for under 600. Amazing! I would ask for Amber. She was very helpful and listens to everything you have to say! I have also heard Weddings by Joy in Olympia I think??? By the way... i love the dress that was the second link. the one without the ruffles on the top. beautiful!

Go check out The Wedding Bell.  The consultants are great, and they have a really nice selection of women's gowns.  They don't just kick you out of the store either.
