Makeup: Bare Escentuals?

I'm the girl in t-shirts & sneakers. I don't even wear makeup to work. It seems as though I've only worn makeup to meet with the vendors for my wedding. I was wondering if anyone had heard of Bare Escentuals makeup? I've been hearing that it's one of the best. Not being a makeup girl, I'm clueless. Also, would yous suggest I go get my makeup done on the day of the wedding, or should I have my sister do it? She did a few friends' makeup for their weddings & whatnot & it came out great. I'm also kind of on a budget... but I like the idea of getting my makeup done.. I never have. But if it's going to be expensive.. I don't think it's do-able.

Re: Makeup: Bare Escentuals?

  • I have the Bare Escentuals foundation.  I love it- it's a powder, very lightweight, and covers up very well.  I started using it before a lot of regular makeup brands were coming out with mineral foundations.  I don't know how well any of the others compare, but they're probably cheaper.  That's the only downside to Bare Escentuals. As for getting your makeup done, if you have someone that's willing to do it cheap or for free and also does a good job, I say go for it!  I have no idea what pro makeup costs, but I'll bet it's not cheap.  I do understand why you'd like a professional to do it.  I haven't decided what I'm doing with my makeup yet, but I'll probably let a friend of my SIL do it since she's offered.
  • I tried BE but didn't like some of the ingredients.  ( bizmouth oxcide)    So I then tried everyday minerals( www.everydayminerals.com)  And love it.  And the prices are good too.  They even offer free sample kits with just the cost of shipping :)
  • I have BE and use it most of the time. It works fine but I would recommend using moisturizer before putting it on. It tends to look flakey if the skin is dry, at least on me.
  • I love BE. I've been using it for about 5 years. I have pretty sensitive skin and every once in a while I will try something else but my skin usually breaks out within a week and I end up going back to BE. The only downside is that it is kind of pricey. But I think it's worth it.

  • LOVE BE...I've been using it for 4 years. I have tried other brands (MAC and drugstore) but they do not compare. It is worth the money and like pp said, it is lightweight. For the wedding, I would have your sister do it!

  • I also love BE, but as many posters said, it can be pretty expensive. About 2 years ago, I switched to everyday minerals (someone above posted the website), and it works great! I really couldn't tell much of a difference between the two, and everyday minerals is much cheaper.
  • If you're referring to the people at makeup counters as makeup artists, then you must be using the term very loosely. If you're going to have someone do it, have them do a trial run in advance.  You'd be surprised how often you end up feeling like you look worse with someone else's makeup application instead of better.

  • I have used BE.  It is nice but it is drying-it dries out my skin.  I do have very sensitive skin-but it is not oily or dry.  If you have a friend (or your sis maybe) who does nice make up maybe have them do a trial and see if you like-they may help you apply make up on the big day.  My g'friend just got married and doens't wear makeup her aunt and us girls helped her.  If you like your sis doing your hair-cool!  I did my own for the same wedding I just spoke about and it turned out nice-everyone thought I paid to get it done!  Yeay for saving$$$
  • I bought BE about a year ago and I really liked the way it felt, but the down side for me is that it did not cover my blemishes very well at all, and I watched the DVD and followed their tips and application directions to a tee! But if you don't have any blemishes it would be a fine, although pricey, way to go.

  • I love BE.. that's the only make-up I use.  My sister goes to a pretty prestigious make-up school in LA and she offered to do my make up for the wedding.  I'm going to her school on the 5th to do a trial run.  We'll see how it goes.  I'm willing to wear whatever looks good that day!  But BE always stays on all day and looks fabulous.
