  • I don't pretend to know the law, but it doesn't seem like pinners are trying to pass off other's copyrighted materials as their own.  When you click on an image from my boards, it will take you directly to the source.

  • I agree, half the reason I pin things is so I can go back and find the website it came from with the full instructions/recipe/whatever.  I don't pretend its me that originally posted anything!

  • I do get rather frustrated when a pin doesn't lead to the orginal for example a dress that I fall in love with then you can't find where to go buy it!
  • I posted this response on FB too, but here it is for those of you who don't check it:

"Copyrighted work can only be used without permission when someone is criticizing it, commenting on it, reporting on it, teaching about it, or conducting research." Strictly speaking, pinning could be construed as a form of passive commenting (you like it, therefore you pin it).

I'd say if you're going to use Pinterest to pin things like must-take photos and such, you cover your butt by adding a comment on how much you like the picture, etc. as well as giving direct credit to the photographer; this also means no re-pinning anything that doesn't do the same; go to the source and start "fresh."

Obviously I'm not a lawyer so I could be misunderstanding exactly what this means, but I feel like this would be a decent way to cover yourself just in case. That said, I think the first course of action ANY reasonable person would take in this situation is to first ask you to take down the pin, in which case complying would obviously be a good call!

  • hmmm interesting.. i never try to pass it off as my own work or that i had a right to it usually i'm repinning a lot of food (i'm finally getting interested in making things)...

this article is making me think twice about the site now. :(
  • It bothers me when I do original pins of projects from my blog and it says "My..." and people don't change it. It links to my blog but still change my caption
  • I have a friend that runs a food blog and because of pinterest she's gotten so much more traffic. I know she really loves it.

  • Pinterest has been my top TEN sources of blog traffic for the last six months.  It might actaully be the top 15 sources.

I use Google Images to find the original source of the images I like.  I HATE when people pin Tumblr pictures.  Almost no one on Tumblr bothers to credit their sources and it drives me nuts.

If Pinterest continues to find ways to make money, I could see there being more problems with photographers wanting credit (and money) for the work that is on Pinterest.
