where we will be living after the wedding. He just got his next station--- McConnell AFB in Witchita, KS.... I'm excited and nervous --- I have to start job hunting now! .. Yikes, I know nothing about Kansas haha

    Good luck job hunting! That's exciting about finding out, I bet that is a relief to finally know. :) I know nothing about Kansas either, except that it gets a lot of tornadoes, lol. ;)

    I used to work at Boeing in Wichita, and I lived like a mile away from the AFB!  Congrats and if you have any questions I will do my best to answer them for you!

    Liberty I will be in touch when we get more details-- FI is still waiting for his official orders..

    The only thing I know about Kansas is curtsey (sp?) of Wizard of Oz.

    Congrats on the new location and good luck with the job hunt.

    My grandma actually grew up in Kansas so we hear stories about it from her. The biggest thing she talks about it that winter is no where near as severe as it is up here!!

    I have a couple friends that are stationed there and they love it! I wouldn't be much help in the job hunting though because they're all in aviation fields :(  Def lurk on the Kansas board, I'm a lurking on the Las Vegas board since I'll be moving out there next week :)

    Congrats! We have always wanted to move someplace else- at least for a year or something like that - but so far nothing has felt quite right so i will live vicariously through you! :)

    Oh and I totally thought you were going to say you were pregnant :).

    Leggs - I am feeling nervous excited... still lots of questions.
    Like.... when he actually reports (he can't officially apply for leave for the wedding until then) where we are going to live (On Base? Off Base?) When am I going to move my/our things (I have been living on my own for the last 5 yrs so I everything for our new place- FI has been living on base dorms which supplies everything) How am I going to move everything
    How am I going to pay to move everything

    Good luck with it!  The only stuff I know about Kansas, too, is because of The Wizard of Oz (one of my all-time favorite movies) and that they're a political anomaly, courtesy of "What's the Matter with Kansas?"

    Glad you know where you are going, for me at least, knowing the next step always makes things a little easier to deal with. Is your FI eligible for getting his moving expenses paid for? would they make an exception because you will soon be married? or since it will soon be his things to, could he have some of the moving paid for? I know when friends and family have been posted somewhere new, their expenses were paid for, def something to look into. Also, start lurking on KS board and even The Nest, I'm sure there will be some people there who are nice as us Minnesotans :) and they would be great resources for job hunting/what KS is going to be like. Good Luck with everything.

    Oh, and the only things I know about Kansas that I didn't learn from Wizard of Oz I learned from Smallville. =)

    mbussey : FI's moving expenses will be covered however since he got his orders before we are officially married they will not cover any of my expenses. And I have everything. I could sneak my stuff with his but then I would have to move it to Oklahoma where he is now and thats even further than Kansas. For our future moves I will be covered but since this is just me going to meet up with him it doesn't count. MAJOR BUMMER. 99% sure I am going to load all my things into a PODS and send it his way.

    My Current lease ends April 30th with the wedding May 28th so I'll move my things in April and then move back in with my Mom is St. Cloud for the month. I plan to keep enough clothes for me to survive a month and then load up my SUV with my Dog after the wedding ---- I really don't want to move all our wedding gifts on top of everything so we are keeping our registry baby and hoping for gift cards and cash. My Mom is in charge of spreading the word that I'm going to be moving right after so gifts are impractical.
