We haven't bought any yet, but I'm getting them from David's Bridal. They have a lot of colors and styles and their prices are really affordable -- my girls get discounts on dresses and shoes since I bought my dress there too.I looked through their catalog and magazines to get ideas about colors and styles, then I took my mom and MOH (my sister) and had her try a bunch on, just to see what they looked like in real life and see which ones she liked the best. I picked out a few I liked, then brought the rest of the girls to try them on. It went a lot smoother than I thought it would! I think it helped having a few styles picked out, as opposed to giving them the run of the place. At one point I did say, "go pick out whatever you want to try on," but that seemed to be a bit overwhelming for them, so I think narrowing down to a few styles or colors is a good way to go. Unless you want to give them the freedom to pick whatever they want -- tell them to pick out any black dress, for instance. Personally I want them to at least coordinate, so I'm opting for similar styles or colors.

Yeah I want them all to coordinate. . my sister who is my MOH will be in the same dress but just a different color. I have looked online at DB and I did find one dress that I loved but they didn't have it available in the colors I'm using. . . It always seems like I find a dress and it will be available in one of the colors I need but not the other. .

My advice? Tell your girls a color of dress and maybe a length and then stay out of it. I asked my girls each individually what their budgets were when I first started planning. Two said under $300 and two said under $200. I took my MOH to try on dresses at a bridal salon and she fell in love with a $250 dress. I loved the idea of having them all get dresses in the same color by the same designer but in different styles and I checked and found that the designer of the dress my MOH loved had lots of gorgeous dresses under $200 for my lower budget maids to choose from. I took another one of my maids to shop for a dress and she picked a gorgeous one as well but the other 2 could never find the time to come to the dress shop with me. I asked them to pick a style they liked off the internet and I'd order it for them, but they didn't want to order a dress without trying it on first, but yet they couldn't find the time to go try the dresses on.While I was trying to work that out, the 2 who had picked their dresses decided they couldn't afford them after all. I tried to find lower priced dresses, but since I had given them the impression that they could choose their own styles, they were really opinionated about what they liked and didn't like and we couldn't find a lower priced line of dresses that had styles that everyone liked. I gave up and just told them to get whatever the heck chocolate brown dress they wanted. It saved me a whole lot of headache and I wish I'd just done that to begin with. One got hers from JCrew, one from David's Bridal, one ordered from Mori Lee online, and one got hers from a boutique in NYC. I haven't seen them all together, but I'm sure it will be just fine. :)

I got my dress for my sister's wedding from Formal Image in Lewiston and it came in a different color!  The company that sent it dyed it wrong and it was a different shade than the others.  Frankie was great- she bugged them to send me a new dress and didn't charge me for it anyway.  I highly recommend them. For my other sister's wedding, we went to jcrew.com and got dresses off the clearance rack.  There were 6 of us, but we all managed to get brown strapless dresses for $40!For my wedding, I only have 3 girls, so I think it will be easier.  I'm actually thinking about having dresses with a print because I think it looks really nice and vogue, and they are more wearable later (the big farce, right?).  I think we are just going to mall hop until we find something the three of them like.

None of my BMs have a ton of money, so I didn't want to force them into dresses they didn't like and had to pay a lot of money for, as well. So I asked them which of my wedding colours they thought they looked best in, and they either bought or used a dress from a previous wedding in that colour. My one BM who is taking over for my recently/suddenly deceased future SIL (who was supposed to be a BM) already had a chocolate brown dress from her brother's wedding and I was fine with that. None of my BMs are wearing remotely similar dresses, but they will be unified by the ivory pashminas I bought for them as part of their BM gift and also by the bouquets (different flowers for each, but the same colour). That worked for me and it worked for them. I want my BMs to feel wonderful and happy and comfortable and beautiful at the wedding... This was the best way to do it, for us.Good luck!

I took my bridesmaids with me. I had them try on the color I thought I liked than the dresses I liked. I picked the one that looked good on all of them. My MOH looked better in a halter full length dress so hers was different.

I ended up picking out a designer and a color for the dresses.  We all went to a few stores so they could try the dresses on then we ordered them online through Netbride.com.  The girls ended up getting a huge discount and they ended up paying less than $100 per dress.
