Ipod Reception

I remember a couple of you had mentioned in the past that you or someone you know used an ipod for your reception music instead of a DJ. Just wanted some input...positives, negatives...anyone have any good playlists to share?

Did Sarah :) have an iPod reception?  For some reason I think I remember her saying she did.  I could be completely wrong though...

If you are doing a Ipod reception I would suggest having a back up Ipod. Just incase the first one has something wrong with it.

Yeah, we plan to have a backup. Also, FI's brother is a musician so hes hooking us up with some sort of sound system and mic and all of that. So, that should be no problem!

my fiance and I are doing this. We are having a small wedding so didn't feel the need for an expensive DJ :)

Good memory! I did! Well, i  booked a venue that included a "DJ." About 2 months out, I emailed the coordinator on site and asked when I'd be able to talk to the DJ about the song selection, first dance music, etc. Well, the coordinator, who owns the venue, informed me that the DJ is her husband. Awesome.  Sigh.  Not a professional DJ. So I asked to see a list of their music. Most of it was awful older music and there wasn't much current stuff. Steve and I sat and talked about it and decided to make our own ipod playlist of songs we liked rather than risk having this dude play Shout and Macarena all night. We wanted our Lady Gaga. :) We made 2 different play lists: 1 with dinner music, and 1 with more upbeat music for after dinner. Then we used the "DJ" as an MC to announce events, etc. It worked out well for us because the style of reception we had. Our reception was only about 3 hours INCLUDING cocktail hour. There wasn't a dance floor, and there wasn't a seated meal. There was a crap ton of food, but it was at stations and people could seat themselves and mingle. If you are doing a full 4 hr reception, you may need an actual DJ to hold the interests of your guests.

I'm venue twins with Sarah so we are also having an IPOD reception and using the "DJ" to announce events and people. I'm actually pretty happy with it...it gave us a chance to pick out every single song we liked from the beginning of the wedding to the end.  We're a 90's, dance and indie-rock couple so I wanted to incorporate all of that. We have CDs for back-up, but only one IPOD. Our wedding is fairly small (55 people) so I think it'll work out well.

That;s we plan on doing.  We have a small budget and I want to make sure all my favorite songs are played.
