I've done it once (not when they first open though) to actually go shopping for myself. Sounds selfish, I know, but I was actually finished with my Christmas shopping so I figured I'd take advantage of the sales for things I needed.
The parking was awful, the lines were ridiculous, everything was so picked though and disorganized....
I'll not be doing that again. It was not worth it.
Ugh, this is the first time I'm adventuring out and only because Target has a TV on sale that I really really want to get FI. If I don't get it after being there for hours, then I'm gonna be soooo mad. I am NOT a morning person. what.so.ever.

Well if you don't go to bed it won't be morning. It will still be night, so you don't have to worry about being a morning person. Problem solved. It will still be dark when the store opens so you can fool yourself into it being morning yet.
BF and I went last year. Camped outside of Best Buy all night. We got there at a little after 11pm and there were already a ton of people ahead of us. There was some drama with people from the store making it seem like they were opening before they were supposed to and people rushing forward and thus eliminating the line that had been there for hours. *shakes angry fist* We got a nice TV and a surround sound system out of it for crazy cheap though.
We don't think there's anything we really need this year and with my toe being the way it is, it's probably a good idea to just stay in instead of risking it getting stepped on.

I've only done the 1st thing in the morning thing once...many years ago my dad & I went to Walmart to get my mom a bread machine at a ridiculously low price - I had someone try to take my shopping cart away from me...I had both hands on it and was pushing it and had 1 item in the cart and someone literally tried to put their large item in my cart and move my hands...I won and kept my cart.
My mom & I may go out to the craft stores for wedding supplies, but that would be later in the day if we do.
No shopping for me, at least in the conventional get-in-line-at-Walmart-at-2am sense. We're roadtripping to Charleston SC (halfway point between FI/me and my parents, and only an hour from my brother) to have Thanksgiving with the fam, and we'll probably do some sightseeing/shopping around the Downtown Market.
I used to work 7am - 2am on Black Fridays. In retail. For five straight years. I usually spend my Black Fridays in my pjs on the couch watching Christmas claymation movies.

I used to do black Friday with my aunt every year. It was crazy and after working in retail for two holiday seasons, I don't want to do it again. Anything that I really want, I can order online at midnight and be back in bed by 1.
That being said, my mom and I will go out later in the day. There is a very small mall by me that is NEVER busy, even on black Friday. If my mom can shop there on black Friday without going completely BSC, anyone can handle it.
Does anyone know if I can order the TV from Target online after midnight or somehting?
Loopy, you made a good point! If I don't go to sleep, it won't be morning yet so that should be good. I just hope I can still stay awake for that long lol. I'm getting old ya know.
I'll be in the middle of nowhere, West Virginia. I swear the nearest store is probably 2 hours away.

I'm pretty sure that best buy and target offer their tv sales online -- BF and I are in the market for a new tv too. . . and he knows better than to try to get me to go shopping on a day when there are hundreds of other crazies trying to get the same thing. I hate crowds and shopping on a normal day. So if we do any shopping, it will be online like GPB.
My BF and I think its a blast to go out early (this year he is trying to talk me into wearing a football jersey and glare paint) and be there when the doors open. My mom is probably going to give us a couple things to look for but for the most part we go for the entertainment.
I went 2 years ago and got a nice Samsung flat screen at Circuit City... it was worth it! I went about 20 minutes after they opened so I didn't wait in line outside at all... got my t.v. waited about 10 minutes to pay and then ate breakfast and went to work. Previous to that I went a couple times... hit a store or two for things that were really, really good deals and then went home and back to bed. This year I doubt I will be doing any shopping.
I'll be going to the outlet mall for 12 am. Last year was pretty fun when I went out at 4, so I am looking forward to this year! My friend I'm going with loves anything to do with Christmas, as do I, so it'll be a good time.
I used to be hardcore black friday shopper cause my older sister would drag me out of bed, put a beanie on my head and shuffle me out the door. Think 4 am in the cold standing in front of circut city or best buy and then from there hitting up the mall and other stores. Man the energy I had when I was young. Back then I felt like a linebacker and my older sister was the quarter back. I was taller than her so I would go in front and make a clear path for her. Now a days I feel there isn't anything worth doing all that over. I rather pay the extra $$$ to avoid the hassles. I'll probably still go shopping but won't be there at the crack of dawn. Ugh my bones creak.
