Ceremony cost for nonchurch member...

I'm not a memebr of a church but I really want to have our ceremony in a church. There are two churches I'm very interested in..both close to the recption venue and both beautiful. In order to have a ceremony at one of them you must be a member. The other will cost me $1200...is that a lot? That includes an organist, pastor, planner and coordinator. It's not just your average church. It was built in 1838, all stone, amazing woodwork and architecture, etc. Just what I want. What do you think? I doubt I'll find a place like this for a few hundred. If anyone has any recommendation for churches like this (old, big and beautiful) please let me know!

Ohh, our reception is at the Dearborn Inn so we would like to stay within 20 minutes of there and not in Detroit.

Most of the churches we looked at were in the $1000 range...one was even $1500 and that was for a member!

    It's a lot but I think that's fairly average. Ours is $850 & it's not very exciting.

I was the same way, we had our ceremony at oak arbor in rochester where i fell in love with the building itself. we were not members & basically just renting the chapel. it was $900 for just the rental, we paid $150 for the organist & brought our own reverend so $1200 seems pretty good if it includes it.

Thanks! I just didn't want to spend that much if it's completely over priced.

Based on what I've heard that's about average. Every time I see a post about church prices I am so grateful my church doesn't even have a recommended donation, just whatever I can afford.

I'm spending about $600 for the church I am 'renting' in Brighton/Howell area, that doesn't include the price of my pastor who I am bringing in to marry us. The other church I was looking at in downtown milford I think ran about $1200. The ceremony site I was looking at outdoors was $1500 and I couldn't justify the cost for the length of the ceremony+pictures. The way I see it though, the money that you pay for a church goes to the church and not a business, so i think it's acceptable.

Have you thought about looking for a Chapel? In a lot of cases, these were once active Churches; not sure if that makes a difference to you.The chapel I'm looking at now is in Brighton and is very reasonably priced. I haven't booked them yet (we actually booked ours out in Fowlerville, but I'm not happy with them..). The one in Brighton I'm looking at was once an active Church but was converted over to a Chapel. I believe it was built in the 1800s, too.

Yeah, I think that's pretty average. At my church it's $1475 if you're not a member! But we are members so it's $975 for us!

That's how much we're paying for a church we are non-members at.

We paid $1000 to have our ceremony at St. John's, so from what you said $1200 would be worth it if you love the place. Ours included the same things, but it did also include though the officiant. If you have to pay a lot more for an officiant, I might rethink...
