Holiday Spirit...

What puts you in the holiday spirit????

Re: Holiday Spirit...

  • Normally decorating the tree and baking cookies, holiday movies kind of do it too and the music.
But - this year, none of it seems to be working.

  • So many things like Christmas songs and movues, seeing all the beautiful decorations and lights on people's houses, shopoing for gifts, etc.
  • I've been listening to a Christmas CD on my commute in every morning, it's helping a little! But I'm really looking forward to next year when we can  (hopefully) have a tree!! And maybe a fireplace!

  • amh- I'm sorry that you're not feeling the spirit. I wish I could give you a hug!

For me, I love the malls at christmas time. The crowds, the people collecting money and toys, everyone buying for other people. That's my favorite.

I wish the Christmas spirit would be around all year.

  • I think its the lack of having a winter, if that makes sense. There is just something about not being able to bundle up in jeans and boots and a sweater to sip on starbucks and shop. It just can't be done in sunny 75 weather.

I love shopping in the mall at Christmas time, my favorite holiday tradition that FI and I have started is shopping for Toys for Tots, that really helps put me in the spirit as well. Shopping for kids is so much more fun than adults! lol!

  • Nothing, apparently. I'm a super grinch this year. I just want it to be January with all of the Christmas crap put away for the year.  bah humbug.
  • Ftl!!! Hi!!!why so grinchy?? For me it was decorating the apartment. And I'm excited to see my nieces Christmas morning.

  • OH NO FTL!! Sorry about the lack of holiday spirit this year.

I am having a little bit of a hard time with it as well since H is gone.  I did put in my Jimmy Buffett Christmas CD and that has helped.  Nothing like "Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of Rum" to put you right in that spirit.  :)

I finally got into the spirit when I ordered our Honey Baked Ham.  Now lets hope it makes it to the table without it being eaten. If anyone has ever had a Honey Baked Ham you know what I mean.  It is so hard to stop eating.  I swear they must inject it with some sort of drug or something.  Oh and it totally calls your name from the fridge.  Ok enough.  I have spent this entire post talking about a ham.  Honey Baked Ham (insert Homer Simpson drooling noise).
  • Crown: I am picking up our Honey Baked Ham for Christmas tomorrow! I've been tasked to do it since they don't have any in NJ where we'll be spending Christmas. They're also cheaper at the NEX, so that's where I'll be getting them!
  • I'm with AMH.  It's hard to feel like it's Christmas when you're used to winter weather this time of year.  Not to complain about gorgeous weather, but yeah, it makes you kind of numb to the turning of time.  One day is pretty much the same as the last.  On the plus side, it means time blends together and seems to go rather quickly, which means hopefully I'll blink my eyes and be out of here!

These delicious gingerbread cookies I made, peppermint mocha at Starbucks, Christmas lights and decorations, sitting by a fireplace (I got to do that while I was visiting my parents this weekend!) and snuggling with FI under blankets while watching Christmasy movies.

<div>Haha. No one will get any more food on Christmas day if this ham is eaten beforehand! I got one for Thanksgiving too and it was all eaten right away so I'll have to get a bigger ham this time! </div>
  • haha ggirl and crown.
    Hello dear :]
Idk.. Just a bunch of stuff.. Somehow the holiday spirit has missed me this year with how busy and hectic the past couple months has been.
I can at least be thankful for my husband this Christmas, though.
My cousin got married about a month or two before H and I ... and he just found out she's been cheating.. Nothing says happy holidays like a divorce.
Extra kisses to my H this morning!!
  • Awwww your poor cousin. That stinks. Aren't you going to your h's family for Xmas? Where is that again?

  • yyyup! I am actually sitting on their couch right now, waiting for H to wake up. (It's 620am our time so he's still snoring away).
Chattanooga, TN :) Love this place.

Are you getting to go any place special this year?
  • H and I are going to fla to be with my parents and my sister and her family. I'm excited to be with my nieces Xmas morning. I'm looking forward to going.

  • Christmas shopping gets me in the Christmasy mood. I just love buying for people and giving. I don’t care if people get me any gifts, but I love the feeling of giving to people. I like the bell ringers, most people don’t like them because they feel guilty walking by…but I love the feeling of putting all my change in the bucket. I love it when people say “Merry Christmas” I don’t mind Happy Holidays or whatever, but it doesn’t make me feel as festive as “Merry Christmas”.

Family drama! I am not even kidding…Normally someone  complains about buying gifts for everyone (I make much less than everyone and I always buy a gift for every person), The new thing is where we are going to have Christmas. Most of my family is pretty flexible, but there are a couple families that like to be a PITA. Oh well, that is Christmas!

Perogies. I come from a Polish Catholic family,  and on Christmas eve we do the traditional polish dinner of perogies.( www.npr.org/2011/01/02/132486850/in-orthodox-churches-christmas-means-pierogies">http://www.npr.org/2011/01/02/132486850/in-orthodox-churches-christmas-means-pierogies) My mom (and all the women in our family) makes about 400 of them from scratch and we eat them before going to mass on Christmas eve. It is really a touching tradition.

  • oh fun :) Beach for Christmas?! lucky :] hehe..
Did you go crazy Christmas shopping for them? I always get carried away with kid shopping..
  • Oh FTL...what a tool that guy is.  Your poor cousin.
  • Ftl-since I have 5 to buy for now I had to limit myself. Just can't afford it anymore. A few years ago though, I was probably spending close to a grand on my nieces and nephews (total I mean). It was bad haha.

  • Actually, my cousin is the guy! His WIFE has been having affairs. :( I don't want to say it was shocking, but they only dated for a couple months, rushed the wedding (like.. so hard everyone thought she much be pregnant because there was not reason to rush into it... nope. Not preggo) and apparently no one in our family liked her at ALL. I only met her at a family get-together a couple weeks before our wedding so I can't speak to her character myself, but I think most of my family is [unfortunately] relieved with it all.

Amanda, pirogi is a Latvian tradition as well (but year-round) mmmmmmmmmmmmmhmmmmm I haven't had one in a couple years.. *sigh*

<div>oh my goodness! 5?!!? :O I can't imagine! My aunt spends so much on my sister and I, but she doesn't have kids of her own, and we're her only nieces (no nephews)... We got super lucky on that front! </div><div>I didn't have any kids to buy for this year, so I bought my girlfriend's 9year old a few things... It's amazing the little stuff that they love. Like Jo Anns has this big kit of nail polish that was 10 bucks marked down to 4. score! And RiteAid had all these huge kits of play makeup. My girlfriend was telling me I got tooo much, but I really didn't spend much! Especially now that it's so close to Christmas and everything is going on sale. </div><div>I don't mind not being an Aunt yet, though. No rush there :P </div>

Sorry.  Well the cheater is still a tool right.  Girls can be that too I am sure.  I just hate hate hate cheaters.  It just makes the other person feel awful.
  • I'm with AMH and Cal, it's hard to feel all Christmassy when I'm still running the A/C at least half the week. But it's rainy today, which is helping a little. I also love the malls at Christmas, as long as I don't actually have anything specific to do. FI and I were there looking for something for his cousin's wife. She just found out she's pregnant, they've been trying for a long time, and with him working on the boats it's not been easy, so they're super-excited. Of course we had already bought her Christmas present and given it to them before we found out, and what did we give her? Rum. So now we have to find something new for her that isn't necessarily a baby thing (I hate getting my pregnant friends only baby stuff, especially when the present is meant for them and the baby's a little ways off).

  • Not feeling too Christmas-y this year either.

Hoping to listen to more Christmas music and watch a few movies to get me in the spirit.

Maybe it's because when I'm not thinking about work and school and bills the only thing I'm thinking about is the wedding. And I really wish I could afford to buy presents for my whole family this year but yeah, there's no way.
