Very first post, needs inspiration

Okay this is my very first post on here, so I'll give ya'll a little background on my fiance and I. We are both fire fighter for our city. He is also a paramedic and I'm an emt and we absolutely love what we do. We are a young couple, he's 22 and I'm 20, we have been together for 3 years and theres no doubt in my mind he's not the one. We are getting married September 25, 2010. Our ceremony is going to be outside, and our reception will be held at a local community center. We are wanting to go with red & black colors, with a fireman theme. I have found a few cute ideas, but I'm running into problems with bridesmaid dresses, and the ceremony decorations. I know the groomsmen are wearing black tux, black shirt, with red vest and tie, with my groom in the same attire but white vest. I want to have my bridemaids wear black dresses with red sashes, or maybe alternate 2 red dresses with black sashes & 2 black dresses with red sashes. I'm just worried it will be too much black. I want it to be kind of classy looking. I thought every thing was coming to together nicely till I realize I havent the slightest idea how I want to do the ceremony I know outside, and I decided to only put maybe 50 chairs out, with a guest list of maybe 125, I figure we can have chairs for ederly and save the budget a little bit. I really need ideas for my alter, I think I just want to put up an arch, but havent the slightest Idea on how to decorate it. I know my wedding is almost a year away, but if I can have the idea in my head and written down then it's alot easier to figure cost then buy things little by little and it won't be so hard to pay for (or thats my theory). Any ideas would be lovely!! oh and Ive looked at many of you guys planning bios they are beautiful!!

welcome. you will get lots of ideas on here. but my advice to you is have a chair for everyone at the ceremony. I would not be very happy if i had to stand the entire time at a ceremony nor will any of your guests. you can rent chairs for 2 dollars at Kirby Tents so its very inexpensive. Black is a great color and i dont think you can use too much of it. That is my main color of my wedding so the girls in black dresses is a great idea. What if your bridesmaids wore black dresses with a red sash and then just your maid of honor wore a red dress with a black sash to sort of give her special treatment. For the arch at the ceremony i would use flowers to decorate it. you could also string flowers on fishing line and have them hanging on the backside of the arch so its like a back drop of your arch and you could also put strings of crystals in between each row of flowers. that would look really great. also drape the arch with fabric would be really nice. I definitely say use the internet for pictures and ideas there are so many great resources and blogs out there. But the girls on this board are extremely helpful. good Luck planning.

Hey! Welcome and congrats on the upcoming wedding. For the bridal party...if you do black dresses w/red sashes...red shoes...and bright red monochromatic multi flowered bouquets I think it would look awesome and very "modern chic!" For the arch you could of course use flowers...but that can get expensive. You could get creative with some fabric draping and that could be really pretty. What time is the ceremony? If it's later in the day, you could always hang lighted lanterns if there are tree branches hanging down around in that area. You could also use the battery operated string lights to go under the fabric that you'd drape on the arch to give a really pretty soft glowing effect. There are lots of things you could do. :)

Hi and welcome!  I'm assuming you're a Jax bride?I agree that you definitely need to have a chair for every butt at your ceremony.  Your guests would not be very happy to stand for an hour.  I think black BM dresses with red sashes would look really nice.  I was originally planning on having black dresses.  Take a look at Davids Bridal because they have a bunch of options for dresses with sashes.Be careful planning everything this far out.  You will change your mind a million times.  I started planning at 16 months out and I'm on my 4th color scheme and I'm not normally indecisive at all.

So cute! But I think monochromatic bouquets like I was saying would make this look less "christmas-y."

oh my gosh cl thanks soo much!! Those were very cute ideas!! & NavyBaby, I'm not a Jaxbride, Im from St Joe thid was the closet board to my hometown. My mom said the same thing bout the chair thing, I'll have to look into chairs then. The fireman theme is very meaningful to us so I dont think I will be changing the scheme. I think it means the most to him to have that in the wedding because that is his passion. I found this super cute axe to cut the cake I LOVE IT!!!! on it it says today I marry the bravest fireman!!

Welcome to the board, everyone is very friendly and helpful here! I also agree, it is necessary to have a chair for everyone. I am also using a lot of black in my wedding, I think it is modern and sophisticated. My inspiration came from looking at bios and endlessly googling images of ideas I had. Eventually, you will come across a pic that hits you and you know you want to duplicate the look.

Welcome! I'm using black too, my colors are blue, black and silver. I agree with the pp, a chair for everyone is a must. People get restless when they stand too long, you don't want your guests uncomfortable. Feel free to post any other questions, we're always here to help.

Agree with PPs about black as well as having chairs for everyone.  For your BMs you could even skip the sashes altogether and have the red shoes and red flowers.I love the axe, that is such a great idea!
