I do a little bit of everything. I work full time in a residential treatment facility as well as have a private practice where I take all the misc. stuff (marrige, grief, run of the mill depression, etc.). My "kids" that I talk about are the ones in the residential treatment facility. We have 26 beds. 14 boys, 12 girls. They are the most amazing humans I know. The crap those kids go through and recover from is absolutely phenomenal. We had bought land in south fargo to expand our campus. Add a gym, a chapel, horse arena, and assessment beds. The people who live in the neighborhood we were going to expand to, didn't want our kids out there because they thought they think they are horrible kids. They aren't. farthest thing from it.I could go on forever. I've been going to city commission meetings and lobbying at city hall for this for about 2 years.
So essentially, we have 3 of 5 commissioners on board to annex us into the city. Which we thought we had won. Turns out, one of the adjacent land owners, who was originally on our side, was offered a ridiculous amount of money by one of our biggest opponents for her land. Because of this, we have an adjacent land owner who doesn't want us out there, which means we need a super majority. There is NO WAY we would get 4 of 5 commissioners to approve it. Gah.
I see, thought it was a school. Is it for drugs and alcohol or for psychiatric treatment? I had a bereavement counselor at my school, she was amazing, besides counseling, she was a professor at NYU. They fired her because she wrote a book about prostitution and feminism.
Well, the school is attached, but the kids live there. When you work in residential, you see a bit of everything because you never know what's going to get referred. which makes me need to read a lot. and network. and soak in knowledge of other people.
What tips you got for working with adolescents with CD issues? I'm interviewing for an on-call position tomorrow, any buzz words I should know about? I've worked with adults with MI/CD before.
motivational interviewing is where it's at in the CD world these days. They'll dig that if they've done their research and are hip with the times. All the CD literature goes against punishing for relapse, rewarding for honesty, and learning for future events.
