Alcoholic favors?

What do you guys think about alcoholic favors? I thought about our guest list and honestly...they're all drinkers. We've been trying to think of something personal and unique to do. I recently saw a bride on the P&E board who did bottles of homemade lemoncello. Seeing as how my mom's side of the family is Italian and seeing as how we'll be honeymooning in Italy I thought this might be a really neat touch. Ideas? Thoughts? It might be really expensive...or a huge PITA. She emailed me her recipe so I'm going to buy all of the stuff this weekend and see how it turns out. I think the lemons have to sit in a dark closet for about 3 weeks so it's definitely a process. The other thing I'm worried about is the people getting on airplanes...I'll have to think about this.

It seems like you've weighed the pros and cons already.  Make a batch and see how it goes.

my sister bought mini wine bottles ( they really tasted like champagne though) from total wine for her wedding and put her own labels on top of them and they were extremely cute and everyone loved them. and it was not expensive. they were like a dollar something a bottle. i would highly recommend it. people love booze

are you planning on doing big or small bottles? cuz you could always do it in 3 oz bottles so people could take them on the plane if they didnt check any bags.

The girl on P&E did it in large bottles and did one per couple...but I'm thinking along the same lines as you Tara. Maybe we can do smaller bottles and do one per guest.

As long as the person on the airplane is checking luggage they should be fine.  A lot of people buy liquor on cruises and bring that home with them on an airplane.  You just have to make sure it's wrapped securely.

If you like the idea go for it! However I would suggest having some non-alcoholic lemonade favors if there are any kids or under 21s (or some other favor) so they dont feel left out.

I was recently in a wedding where the bride & groom did cute little bags with 2 shot glasses and 1 mini bottle of liquor per bag.  They had a few different kinds of liquors and they actually took the time to go through the guest list and determine what kind of liquor to give each person (placecards were attached to the bags).  Honestly, the guestlist was FULL of drinkers, but they did Kahlua for those who they weren't sure about.  It was a really cute idea, and it was a wedding favor that was much more useful to me than some of the junk I've gotten in the past while attending weddings! :)

Oh, and I flew with carry-on luggage only, and it was not a problem.

yeah cuz if most people are coming just for your wedding, they probably wont check any bags. I think it sounds like a great favor though! On a diff alcohol / luggage note- We bought a big bottle of Captain Morgan in the Cancun airport on our way back from the HM. We totally forgot about it when we re-checked our bags in the states. You shoulda seen the look the lady gave me when I tried to check it- haha. She must have thought I was a complete idiot.

I think it sounds like a great idea!  And now that you've mentioned it, I've spent the last 30 minutes reading about how to make homemade limoncello... lol.

I think it's a great idea, and I also recommend the smaller bottles, though honestly finding enough of them may be your challenge. I gave out mini Bacardi Rums in our OOT guest bags, since Bacardi is bottled in Jax, and our guests were thrilled about it. Most of the bottles didn't survive their first night :D But, yes, if guests don't consume them right away, getting them back would be a concern. You could make a run through Total Wine and see if they have any fancy minis of Italian-type liquor or limoncello in general, etc. Could save you a lot of trouble.
