Small check

So, FI and I have been struggling with the idea of gifts for each other.  We know we want to do something for each other, but we want it to have meaning to each other- it doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, as long as it has meaning.FI has asked for his life membership to NESA (National Eagle Scout Association).  There are times he thinks it's trivial and useless, but deep down, I know it's something he really wants, even if won't "do him any good or have any purpose".  I will most likely be getting this for him.Me, on the other hand, well...I have been having trouble coming up with what I wanted.  We had talked, and he said that if we can't come up with anything else, he would do a bigger diamond for my ring (special since it's also my birthstone).  But I really didn't want that.Well, last night as I was having trouble sleeping, I was thinking about the moving of stuff from my mom's house/old bedroom to our new one, and how I have alot of items on my shelves.  Some need to be gotten rid of, others I want to keep out.  Then there are still others that I definitely don't want to get rid of, but don't want to keep out (my first porcelin doll from my grandparents, for example).  I decided while thinking about it, that I want my wedding gift to be a hope chest, since I don't have one.  It fits perfectly, since FI does carpentry for a hobby, and can make me one with his own hands. It's not expensive, but for me, it's something I have always wanted, and when you add it being made by my future husband, it's perfect.  It represents my past and my future- not only can it hold those small things dear to me now, but the items we will collect as we move through life (like our children's christening gowns, etc).  When I told him what I wanted, he absolutely loved the idea, and thought it was wonderful, and can't wait to make it for me.So, we have finally settled on our gifts to each other- his membership into NESA, and a hope chest for me :)
