Need a new location!

So the only thing I was sure of, other then the fiance of course, was that I was going to have an outdoor wedding at a friend's motel in the thousand islands overlooking boldt castle. It's a family business, that's been on the market for a couple of years, but they weren't really serious about selling it.Well she called me last night and sad they just knocked $1 million dollars off the price.. and are serious about selling now.. which means they most likely will not own it next Sept.So now I have no idea where to go from here. I love the idea of a fall outdoor wedding at a place where people can stay.. this was perfect.. I'm just sad, and don't know where to go from here..  This also means adding an additional expense we weren't expecting to the budget since our site was free...I live in Canandaigua, lots of family in Rochester NY. Any thoughts on similiar locations? Hotel/motels on the water that don't need to normally do weddings.. Can be anywhere in a 3 hour radius.. we just want something simple, but fun.. and outdoors!

My brother got married at Boldt Castle Island...in a gazebo outdoors. I don't even think they charged anything. You will need a place for a reception but there are so many places up there you could find. GOOD LUCK

I'll be in Canandaigua this weekend! I am going to the wine festival. Did you think of having it at one of the wineries?

I just met someone this weekend who is getting married (just the ceremony) at Singer Castle, and then the reception will be back on the mainland.

I live in the Buffalo area, and Im having my reception indoors at samuels grande manor in williamsville.. its a little more than half way for you, but the backyard is breathtaking.. if you want to get married there, you can as well, and they have a whole set up for it.. I saw it in the winter, but saw pics from previous wedding there.. its gorgeous! check them out samuelsgrandemanor.com the prices for what they include is by far an amazing deal.. we're having 200 adults and it cost less than 11 grand.. that includes EVERYTHING! (food, salad, soup, alcohol, intermezzo, 9 appetizers, champagne toast for everyone, dessert, etc..) ask for Sue.. My fiance is friends with her.. His name is Neil Smirnow..

We are having our wedding 9/4/10 at Beaver Island Clubhouse in Grand Island, NY just outside Buffalo. It is on the water and we're doing the ceremony and cocktail hour outside with reception following inside. It may be not as grand as you are looking for, but it is exactly the right mix of casual elegance that I want. There is no place to stay there, but we are renting some type of bus to transport guests from the Holiday Inn on grand island to the site, which shouldn't be more than 5-10 minutes away.Another place to look at is the Barton Hill Hotel in Lewiston, NY. It was all just redone and gorgeous! Very regal and old-world elegant. It is on the lower Niagara River and very nice- I have read some mixed reviews online but it's definitely worth checking out at least online. Hope this helps!

Take a look at Bayshore Grove in Oswego NY.  It is right on Ontaio Lake.  I know it's a little far away (me and my fiance are from Syracuse), but I have my wedding scheduled for there next summer and so far they have been awesome.  There is an outdoor pergola for the ceremony and indoor reception hall, with a huge outdoor deck where you can set up a bar and hors d'ouvres.  The family that owns Bayshore also owns 2 hotels, right next to each other about 4 miles from the wedding site.  The prices are really reasonable and there are a ton of options for food and drinks, depending on what you want to spend and how you want your reception to be. The website is www.bayshoregrove.com.

we are having our wedding at the mendon country club in honeoye falls, ny... they have a really nice gazebo that you can use free of charge, but you just have to rent the chairs... the reception venue is at the same location, and it's fairly inexpensive... my friend's sister just got married there this past june. her pictures were very nice and she said the food and service was spectacular! www.ccmendon.com Good luck!

I live in the Rochester area, and have heard great things about the following places: 1. Woodcliff. They are a hotel/spa/banquet place... very upscale and nice. I am not sure if they are by the water though... http://www.woodclifflodge.com/weddings.cfm 2. Burgandy Basin. I know they have gorgeous outdoor wedding facilities, with very pretty gazebos and such. http://www.burgundybasin.com/weddings1.html I am personally having my wedding at Lake Shore Country Club in Greece. Very reasonably priced, and very pretty! It is pretty close to Lake Ontario if you wanted to do photographs at the beach. http://lakeshore-cc.com/events.htm I'm not sure if these are quite what you are looking for, but they are all in the Rochester area and are all very nice. I hope this helps a little! Oh, and also check out rochesterwedding.com for more ideas!

It all really depends on your budget, I am from Spencerport my FI is from downstate NY and we currently live in Albany so we have been looking statewide...I have the same requirements as you and I need water :-) I've always loved Canandaigua Inn on the Lake but it is out of our budget...you are looking at a $62-85/pp plate $19/pp for the tent and $1k for ceremony, they have a 150 guest min on Sat. and $9k food and drink min. Also, if you are willing to travel about 1 hour, the Glen Iris Inn at Letchworth State Park (Grand Canyon of the East) is beautiful, 2nd largest waterful in NY (next to Niagra) and great staff...prices are pretty reasonable too, we decided against it simply because of the 6 hour drive for his family.  Also look at Belhurst Castle in Geneva (although not so good food reviews), Bristol Harbor in Canandaigua, Sonnenburg Gardens (Webster I think) or even if you don't mind the lack of privacy, find a beautiful park that will let you set up a tent and get the event catered...lake ontario is so close...hope this helps a little!Good luck!
