Videographers - feedback

So ladies, you may have seen my post a few days back looking for videographer for wedding in 2 weeks... I got quick response from these: Honbun video Dallas Digital Events Precious Memories Services Precious memories was suppose to call me Sunday a.m. and never did. Dallas Digital Events weirded me out and someone else posted about a bad meeting with them. Honbun's site was totally cute but I had problems viewing videos and when i finally did, thought they were cheesy bad. And she followed up a lot and fast- which was great for a frazzled bride but she was almost too eager, you know? A lady here turned me onto Austin Walton and I LOVE his style-wish I had found him before but he was booked already. He responded very promptly and was so sweet. If your looking and like something a little different, check him out. Then iI found joshdutton.net and notthesameproductions.com (Nathan). Both guys were fabulolous and helpful and their packages are fair priced. I am going with Josh only because he had a lot more prepared wedding samples to show me where Nathan didn't have a lot of wedding stuff to show even though he says he has done a lot . I think either would do great. Nathan is a fun personality, and I think he would be a blast to work with and very creative. Josh seems like a total pro. I lucked out I think. If anyone has worked with Josh, let me know how it went. Anyway I thought I would provide an update and share some of what I found on video besides Adam kegg, who it seems is all anyone recommends on here (which I am sure is for a reason I just couldn't get a hold of him and was doubtful on him being available with short notice). I also considered Time piece but they were already booked too and Soulbox productioons and Elixir look great but out of my budget. Thanks all for your help and I hope this can help some others.

Jess, can you tell me what video runs cost wise?  We weren't going to have a videographer but I am considering adding it if we can fit it in the budget.  Having not looked into it yet, I have no idea what I'm looking at as far as cost.

Ditto Steph - I'm now reconsidering it.

We originally didn't think we were going to hire one either and all of our friends said, "NO, YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT." Seriously, we had at least five couples say that and we were shocked, Everyone says the day goes by so fast and you don't even know half of what is going on so it's fun to see it, and of course, to have the memory of your actual ceremony. Steph, I have been researching and it seems that it can be anywhere from $500 if you just want one camera with no edits and really nothing fancy to $5000 plus for the best. I am looking at people in the range of about $1500 which seems to usually include two cameramen (can make the edited versions much more interesting) a highlight music video, an edited version of your ceremony and reception as well as about 3 DVD's. Of course you can get it for cheaper and for more but that's about where I am at right now. Also, most people will tailor the package to fit your needs so if you had $1000 to spend you could tell them that and I am sure they woudl work with you. I have a meeting with Turquoise Productions tomorrow, I am super excited, I will let you all know how it goes! Hope this helps!

Thanks Wag.  Yeah, I looked at Adam's website today and it's $400 for the ceremony only then up from there.  $950 was his small package for both ceremony/reception.  If I foot the bill for this myself, I'm not sure I can do it (FI says he hates how he looks on video and doesn't want one.)  I can't spend thousands on it, there's no way.  Like lighting, FI doesn't think it's necessary so I may be out of luck.

Steph-do you have someone that can help out with it? It would be nice to have a video but it's not the end of the world if you don't. You always have your pictures and your precious memories!

I am going with Josh. I am doing a 2 camera full coverage and an hour and half before for around $1350- he has a 10% off special if you book this month. He seems very professional and definitely didn't settle for him just beccause it is last minute. I am excited about it! His basic package com,es out under $1000 his prices are on hisi web site, as are Nathan's. I have fuond generally if the prices aren't on the Web site they are too expensive (for my budget anyway). I think Nathan would work with you quite a bit if you wanted to use him- he seems like a blast. If you call him tell him i sent you. Adam Kegg wasnt available on my day and referred me to WWW.Videoonepro.com but I had booked Josh by then- hope this helps.

Oh, if I fuss enough FI will probably come around.  I'm still considering it--maybe I'll just do the ceremony, I can certainly swing that.  Thanks Jess for the info, maybe I'll check these guys out if Adam isn't available.

JessTX, I'm happy for you that you found someone in time that you actually like. I'm the one that warned you about Digital Events. Glad to help. For everyone else looking... I have a meeting on Saturday with Austin Walton (Productions) and am super excited. I love his work. He isn't the cheapest out there but also isn't the most expensive. I think he is still affordable for the quality of work he does. ALSO, he offers a payment plan! Only 25% to reserve your date, 25% 10 days prior to your wedding and then the other half isn't due until he is actually reading to mail you your DVD's!! That plan alone is allowing us to book him with our budget. I will write later once I meet with him in a few days!

Leeann- Did you end up booking Austin?  If so, what did you think of your video?
