VENT!! FMIL Dress

Am I crazy that it bothers me that my FMIL is wearing a black sequined/beaded dress to our wedding?!?!

What is it about the dress you don't like? Do you have a pic?

Be glad she isn't wear a 1980's purple velvet dress with a gold doily thing on the chest and some sort of chandelier beading on the sleeves like my drunk aunt Grace.

I hate that it's BLACK and looks like a funeral dress for the queen. I feel like she's trying to outdo my mom. Maybe I'm just being a brat! :)

Your mom will probably look more vibrant because she'll be in color. And just be glad that she's not wearing white! :o)

I think black can look really nice and classy......that's why I was curious if you had a picture.

My FMIL is too, but it is between that and a light blue pant suit??? Neither sound fantabulous to me, but oh well.  I guess I am beyond caring.  She is actually borrowing both of them from a friend- she doesn't own any "dressy" clothes.  She is a complete tombuy, and I have no worries of trying to "show" my mom up...I don't think either of them will be too "sexy" so I have nothing to be worried about!  ;) I am just letting her wear whatever she is comofrtable in...

Well I think the dress is very nice, it does not look like a dress that I would wear to funeral but to a formal occasion.

i think it looks like a formal evening dress.  black is very slimming.  I don't think you should have to worry about that.  what colors are the tuxs?

My own mom wore a black dress to my wedding on Friday and I could care less that she did. I just wanted her to be comfortable and confident in what she was wearing. That said, she struggled with it a little. She was worried that people would think ill of the mother of the bride in black, but if it bothered anyone they didn't say anything (thankfully!). I think the don't wear black to a wedding has gone to the wayside, just like wearing all black and nothing but all black to funerals. I agree that the dress looks formal, not funeral-ish.

It's a nice dress. I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone will be looking at you and your FI and will probably not even notice!

They featured that dress (or something very similar) on "Say Yes to the Dress".  The MOB was unhappy with the same dress in brown, so tried it in black (the one in your pic), but then ended up back in brown.  It looked very nice on the MOB.

I would have LOVED if she bought it in brown (would have coordinated beautifully with the BP), alas...it is what it is :)

I'm late chiming in....but my FMIL is also wearing black. I think it is fine and it actually looks like a nice dress. If the beading is over the top...well...at least YOU don't have to wear it!
