Need some advice, ladies

Hi! So, my fiance and I just booked our ceremony & reception at the Doubletree in Tarrytown (anyone have any good stories) - - we are now on the hunt for DJ's, photographers, videographers, cigar rollers, etc! This is going to be a pretty big wedding because my fiance is Albanian and we are going to have it be half Italian/American and have Albanian...ANY ADVICE??

We just booked DJ Bri Swatek for our wedding next year. He comes very highly recommended on this board, and is very affordable! As far as photographers, we are using Windau Photography, based in NYC. His photos blew us away, we loved his energy and enthusiasm, and we were able to take advantage of a 10th anniversary special he was running.

    Photographer - Ricky Restiano
    Videographer - Moving Pictures, LLC
**both are pricey but worth it**

DJ - DJ Serg Entertainment (but make sure you get in writing that Serg has to be there for the event). Jimmy Dee Productions and Dance Time Entertainment are also very good.

Cigars - La Casa Grade Tobacco Co (on Arthur Ave)

Photography - I suggest our photographer whom we can't thank enough - Julian Ribinik. He also provided us with a great videographer and the day of coordinator!

I second Ricky Restiano for your photographer. I'm still in love with our photos.

I also recommend Jimmy Dee as your dj.

We attended a wedding DJ Serg did and thought it was awful. I guess if you love non-stop club music it works, but that's not my thing, and it wasn't the thing of 90% of the guests at the wedding, and the dancefloor quickly emptied and stayed pretty much empty.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all your input. I have heard about DJ Serg and Jimmy Dee - - we are going to a friend's wedding in September and they are having Jimmy Dee...maybe I should wait & see.

When should I be ordering bridesmaids dresses?!?!

I wanted Jimmy Dee and FH wanted Serg so I compromised and let him get his choice on the DJ. I think it really depends on what you request with him - the bride and groom at the wedding you went to may have had a lot of club music on their request list. I'm going to be specific in the fact that I want some house music but don't want my wedding to sound like I'm on the dance floor at Sound Factory the entire night...lol He def. needs to cater to my entire crowd.

When is your wedding? If they're DJing your friend's wedding in September, I would def. wait to see them in action.

From what I've been told, BM dresses should be ordered anywhere from 9 to 6 months in advance.

Your wedding is about a year away, you have time for BM dresses. My wedding was in October and the girls ordered their dresses in March or April (I can't remember) and they came in June.

I second Majestic Studios for photography. I haven't gotten married yet but we did our e-pics with them and they were seriously incredible!

I actually got my dress in April... I went to "look around" for fun and found the dress...It's a Mikaella gown. I would have never looked at it on the hanger but the woman helping me (Fontana Bridal in Scarsdale) brought it in and it was so beautiful on! Bridesmaid dresses are hard though - - I have an eclectic group of gals.

I did this for bridesmaids dresses: http://littleborroweddress.com/. You can have your girls rent a dress like your guys rent a tux. They can get all different styles but the same color.

I'm getting married in Sept 2012, and got engaged beginning of June 2011. I already have the venue, church and photographer. I loved Ricky Restiano but he was way out of price point for me, almost double. If you can afford around 9gs for his full package, go for it. It was improtant for me to have a second photographer assistant and he alone is close to 5gs.

We went with Elissa Davidson Photography. She is amazing! Her personality is fantastic, she's up in Poughkeepsie but she travels (and from what I know, doesn't charge for travel) and she's always bettering her skills, going to seminars, learning, etc. She's also really flexible so she can do traditional if you're looking for traditional or she can do what she calls documentary which is photojournalistic wihch is what we're going for. She was very affordable, works with you in negotiating price and just really loves what she does.

I will also be looking into Bri Swatek for my dj and a few others. Tarrytown Floral Designs seems to have pretty decent prices for packages of bouquets, boutiennieres, etc. Check out Everything Bridal Bridal Show... they are in Westchester and seem to be a big show. I'm going to one today in Eastchester. That could give you more ideas too!
