Budget wedding venue

I have a budget of $15,000 and the venues I like or have liked thus far are $3000+ to rent the facility, not including catering or anything. The budget calculators on a few different websites tell me that I should spend about $1,200 on a venue. I want a nice, unique venue/location with an outdoor space for the ceremony but indoor for reception since I plan on having the wedding in October 2013 and can get chilly at night. Any suggestions on an affordable outdoor/indoor non-traditional venue?

Thanks!

Re: Budget wedding venue

  • I'm having my wedding at Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby, CT.  Their prices are really reasonable (for about 150 people food, open bar, cake, and facility should be about $15,000, so if your wedding is on the smaller side you would be fine).  We are getting married outside and having the reception indoors.  I'd say it's a pretty rustic place, but I'm not sure if I'd call it non-traditional or unique.......I wanted exactly what you're describing when I first started looking but found all that the idea of a "unique wedding" has caught on and places are really expensive.  If you want any more info feel free to send me a PM.
  • A lot of the country clubs are reasonably priced and offer a space for an outdoor ceremony. We are getting married at Glastonbury Hills Country Club. They have a variety of packages for different price ranges. I know Manchester Country Club is also even more reasonably priced.

  • The Penfield Pavillion in Fairfield is a great deal and seats 175 indoors. It may be a bit cold, but who knows? We had a day in the 60s this past October. The fee to rent the space is $1,200 for non-Fairfield residents. http://cal.fairfieldct.org/content/2765/2789/2811/3731.aspx
  • We are looking into Seasons at the Tradition in Wallingford. We have a very tight budget as well. They DO NOT CHARGE a rental fee and have an outdoor space as well as a covered patio space in case of inclement weather. The inside is really nice, we went and visited! Jen has been really helpful and informative and I know there are lots of hotels in the area, which we will be using since we are out of town! Food prices seem reasonable, you are able to customize open bar packages, if you choose to have one, and a cake is not included in the package so you can choose your own (we are lucky since my FI's cousin is a cake maker!) Either way, good luck!
