Uplighting and hanging paper lanterns (RWBC)

Help!  Our venue is at the Roger Williams Botanical Center and I'm trying to find a vendor that will provide uplights and paper lanterns.  I found out that the biggest expense for paper lanterns is the cost of hanging them on the ceilings!   I got a quote for $100 (40x LED-lit paper lanterns of varying sizes) plus $350 for the setup and hanging of the actual lanterns!  Is that normal?   Does anyone know of an affordable way to get uplights and lanterns in Providence?  We already booked our DJ and he doesn't provide uplights, unfortunately. I've heard of Ormonde Production and John Orton events, but was told that they were pricey.  Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Re: Uplighting and hanging paper lanterns (RWBC)

  • Did you try Exquisite Events of Newport and Ryan Designs? I am not sure if the pricing is more affordable than John Orton or Ormonde Productions but it is worth inquiring. Also Music Mixers does uplights and paper lanterns but I am not sure if that is an issue your DJ might have. There is DIY uplights, you can buy wireless LED uplights online for around $60 a pop but they are small so the cost can add up if you need a lot of uplights. DIY paper lanterns is also another option but you will still need to find someone to hang the lights (if you have a DOC they can do that!) G.L
  • Thanks! We have a DOC with our caterer (Russell Morin).  I had initially asked if they could help with paper lanterns and they said I would need to go through a lighting company.  I didn't specifically ask if I had DIY lanterns, if they would be able to hire people to hang them.  Thx for the suggestion of Exquisite events and Ryan Designs -- I just emailed them to get a price quote!  :)
  • I had a similar experience with my caterer, their so-called coordinator referred me to other vendors which is why I ended up hiring my own coordinator who took care all of my DIY projects. G.L with finding a affordable lighting company
