Chinese Weddings

Dances

Hi, I'm Chinese and finace is polish. I'm trying to incorporate both traditions in our big day. Are any of you doing dances during the reception? I'd like to do a father/daughter dance but my dad is Chinese and doesnt listen to any American musicians. I was thinking of doing a chinese song, I've asked him to pick but he keeps saying its up to me....anyone know any Chinese songs?

I'm also Chinese and my DH is 1/2 Polish and a mix of German/Irish.  I surprised my father with a Chinese song for our father/daughter dance - Teresa Tang's The Moon Represents My Heart.  It's in Mandarin and we're Cantonese but my father speaks both.  I'm told it is one of the most well known Chinese love songs. Here's a link to it on YouTube http://tinyurl.com/5cw8obAs for Polish traditions, we did not do the Polish Wedding Dance.  DH's parents are deceased and it was not important to him.

NJABC- that's great! Thanks so much for the link! I dont think we'll be doing anything "polish" i think just more "american" (not to be so racial and clairify as such) lol Thanks again!

I just noticed you are in Philly.... we got married in Center City Philly.  I went to Shanghai Bazar on Race St next door to Joy Tsin Lau and upstairs they have loads of music.  One of the managers there helped me with this and I bought a CD of Teresa Tang's music from them for really cheap.Oh... and I forgot to mention that when my father & I started dancing I asked him if he recognized the song and HE DID!!  He started singing it as we were dancing.  It was one of the sweetest moments!

any song by teresa teng is a classic! i don't even understand chinese but i know who teresa teng is. i my HK relatives if they like teresa teng.  even though they prefer westernized songs from the 60's, they definitely knew her as a major chinese singing icon. it's pretty easy to find songs of hers... faye wong did a cover of teresa teng songs too.

I am white (polish, austrian, german, englidh mutt) and my FI is chinese. Thank you for the song recommendation- beautiful. His dad speaks minimal english and his mom- none- well, she say's "Hi" and :"Thank you." This will be a perfect song to play at the wedding. I want them to be comfortable. FI wants more traditional american or ABC wedding but maybe I can convince him to dance with his mother to this song. Where can I buy this CD?

I bought it at a store in Philadlephia Chinatown. Not sure where you are located but most any Chinatown bookstore that also has music will have it since it's such a classic.

Thanks! I am in Arlington, Virginia/ Washington, DC. I played the song for FI but he was indifferent about it. I think his mom will like it. Atleast his sister said so!
