Purple Roses?

My wedding accent color is dark purple and I would really love to have dark purple roses for our centerpieces, but they are really difficult to find and the ones that I have found cost a fortune! Would anyone happen to know any decently priced websites for dark purple roses in bulk? Perhaps an alternative? What are your opinions about maybe mixing real white roses with silk purple? Thoughts please!

Thank you!

We had the same issue planning our wedding, and ended up going with purple calla lilies, which looked great!

And then for our centerpieces, we did lanterns and scattered freeze dried purple rose petals (which surprisingly looked and felt fresh).

Don't know if this is dark enough for what you need. Our ties and other accents were a little bit darker, but the purples were all in the same family- so it really looked nice together.

    Hope that helps!

I just checked and the two websites I used only have lavender.  (fiftyflowers.com and flowersandfreshness.com)

You can dye white ones yourself if you can't find any. When you get the white ones, put a ton of purple food coloring (mix equal red & blue) in water, cut the stems at an angle, place in the water for a day or two.

there are no "purple" roses.....you may be looking at a flower called Lisianthus...it is a  similar looking flower....real purple does not exsit in a rose.

A word of advice if you try to dye flowers... definitely buy a "test batch" of roses to dye a few weeks or even months before the wedding. Try to dye them and see how they turn out (different varieties of rose take dye better than others, I've heard that vendela are typically used). You might want to find purple dye, instead of mixing blue and red- because sometimes that will turn out looking black...

Another option would be to buy flower spray (you can buy at craft stores, floral supplies, or online). It is essentially spray paint for flowers, but is not as opaque. If you decide to spray dye, I also recommend trying it out ahead of time. Make sure you do it slowly and evenly (or else it will drip and run), and hold the can far enough away from the flower, because if you hold it too close, the pressure from the dye will brown the flower.

Either way- I want to reiterate that you should try it out before the wedding, because the last thing you want is to dye flowers the day before your wedding, and have them not turn out exactly how you want them. I always recommend trying to avoid dyeing flowers if at all possible.

    Good luck!

I agree with PP...there are no "dark" purple roses.  There is a variety of rose that is a lavender color but if you want that dark purple color your best bet is to use lisianthus.  Oh and please do not dye your roses. Dyed flowers can stain your dress, hands, tablecloths, pretty much anything they touch.  Also, dyed flowers look just that, dyed...please just use what nature gives you...there are plenty of other dark purple flowers to choose from.
