Honeymoon/Leaving Gifts

Since we're going on vacation tomorrow, this has just popped in my head:

For those of you who are going on your honeymoons right after the wedding, what are you doing about the wedding gifts?  First of all, are you opening them immediately, or waiting until you get back?

Second of all (this is the part that was nagging at me) are you leaving the gifts in your empty house/apartment?  Maybe I'm being paranoid.  I'm just thinking of my apartment neighbors noticing that we got married...noticing us hauling box after box into the apartment...noticing us hauling our suitcases back out...and coming home to find an empty apartment. 

Should we take the gifts to our parents' instead of our own place?  Am I the only person who's worried about this?  It wouldn't be the first time that my imagination worries ran away with me.  :)

    I guess it just depends on your neighbors.  We'll take all of our gifts home and probably have my cousin check in on our place a couple times while we're gone.

    If you live close to your parents, I don't see the harm in taking the stuff to their house.  Just do whatever you are most comfortable with and that won't have you stressing while on your honeymoon.

    We're getting married on a Friday and leaving on Sunday for our honeymoon... but I can definitely say that Friday night I will be doing something other than FH in the hotel room! -- I'll be opening gifts! haha, that may sound greedy or whatever but I would rather record who gave us what and put all the money into our savings the following morning than lose one envelope somewhere that has $200 in it or something. As far as physical gifts, I also want to open those right away to make sure nothing's broken (and to obviously see what we got!) but my mom offered to have them stored at my parent's house during the honeymoon (luckily we will pass their house on the way to the airport) because I agree.. I don't want anything stolen! 

    EDIT: However, it also depends on where we're living at the time. FI and I don't know yet if we'll be in an apartment or a house. Either way, my sister will have a key and check in daily to make sure everything's fine.

    We left all of ours at our house but we also had someone staying there watching our dogs.  Honestly, you will only have a few actually gifts and A LOT of cards with cash/checks.  We opened ours the night of the wedding and then hid the cash/checks in the house.  Came back and everything was still there.

    We are leaving the next day at 8:30 in the morning :/ We are going to open the cards that night or in the morning and give everything to my Mom to deposit into our account the next day.

    I plan on sending everything to my parents house unopened until we get back. I don't think there will be anytime between the wedding and the honeymoon to open gifts.

    We are getting married in Michigan (live in Seattle) and leaving at 3:30 the next morning to catch our flight to go on our 2 week long honeymoon.

    This is what we'll be doing:

    1. My parents are coming back with us to our hotel (romantic, I know), so we can open all cards and sign all checks that night.  They will then deposit the money for us on Monday.
    2. Any gifts we get (which won't be many - Italians typically give money at showers), my parents will ship to us when we are back from our honeymoon
    3. Any gifts we receive while we are away for the 3 weeks for the honeymoon, I will be finding a trustworthy neighbor to look over our porch and stick them in her garage/house.

    My parents/relatives just put everything in my mom's car and all the gifts and cards went back to her house.  We didn't open them until we got back from the honeymoon.

    I can't imagine opening them that night because I'd be paranoid one would get lost in the shuffle, plus we were TIRED.  I don't think we would have appreciated them as much then.

    It was fun opening them when we got back--another exciting thing to look forward to!

    If you have someone close to you in the family who is around 18ish they might just stay at your place for you while you're away so you don't have to haul all of that stuff twice.  They would probably love it to be not staying with their parents for a week ... I know that my little sister that age does!
