Dresses

So I just got home from round 1 of dress shopping. I went to Mariposa and LOVED it there! I thought for sure it was going to be a stressful time but I had SO much fun!! And I found a dress that i LOVE.. except for that it only comes in ivory. it is absolutely beautiful and i loved it so much i didnt want to take it off. but i want fuschia, black, white and silver as my wedding colors.. so i dont know if i should keep looking till i find something similar in white.. or if it doesnt matter what color my dress is compared to the colors of the wedding.. any thoughts?p.s. i have pics. just dont know how to put them up!!

Re: Dresses

I think that's up to you. My dress was ivory and I picked muted BM colors because I didn't want my BM's dresses making my dress look yellowish. We went to David's Bridal (where we got the BM dresses) and put my sisters in dresses of different color tones and had them stand next to a dress that was similar in color to my dress. My mom liked the rich, bright color, but it bugged me, so we went with a different color. But since others didn't seem to think rich colors with ivory were a problem, there probably isn't a strict rule on this one.

Hi, the same thing happened to me the first day I went dress shopping I absolutely loved a dress, but my mom convinced me that I should look at other places and I am glad I did. I went to mariposa, which I really liked them. I went to the dresser, which I don't recommend. I had my appt. at 12 and was there right on time, yet they took forever. Besides being late, it just felt impersonal, like she just wanted to get dresses on me and send me on my way. And finally I went to Ferndales, where everyone was so nice and I found the dress I really wanted. I'm glad I did that, because even if at the end of the day I realized I did want the first dress I know I could have gone back.

my daughter went to Ferndales, it was the worst experience of all the shops she went to. She told the sales lady what she wanted, all lace, no sequins, beads etc. The lady told her that perhaps she should change her mind (because they only had about 4 dresses that fit that description). She was rude and we couldn't wait to leave. Thinking back we should have left after the first comment was made so that we didn't have to put up with the rest of the things she said. Bottom line, we visited a number of different places, some multiple times. Ferndales was the worst. My daughter bought her dress at Mariposa. As a mom who was writing the check, I was very happy with the way Mariposa treated not only my daughter but all of the other brides they were helping. They were friendly, helpful, they listened and did not tell my daughter to "change her mind". By the way- her dress is the most beautiful all lace dress, no beads or sequins- just what she wanted. :)

Gosh, I am so sorry you had a horrible time at Ferndales!! I am one of 6 Bride Friends that all got their dresses at Ferndales, and we have all loved it!! I guess it depends on the salesperson you get-although I told mine what I wanted, and she got me a bunch like what I wanted but one that she just thought I should try on, and it ended up being my absolute favorite and totally THE dress. Glad you had a better experience elsewhere, though!

I don't know what they have left, but you should stop by Eli Thrift store in Anaheim. I bought my dress there and it is a Sottero Midgley brand new with the tags on for $100 dollars and the people helping me were wonderful.  Plus all of the money goes to helping abused children.  Can't hurt to look.  I have told many other brides who have all had great luck finding a dress there.

You will love Mon Amie, I went during a amy michelson trunk show and found my dream dress. I had a concept of what I wanted flowy airy unique, we totally found the one. My sales lady was great, most the 8-10 samples wouldn't zip on  my 12-14 frame and they didnt make me uncomfortable at all. I loved it there!!!
