No, it's not like that at all.  A trunk show is an organized event where a designer brings all of their newest gowns (sometimes the entire collection, depending on the designer) to showcase at the store.  Usually the designer or a rep from the company is there and they offer 10% off if you purchase a dress at the show.  Also, sometimes you're able to work with the designer/rep to make custom modifications that you might not get if you didn't buy it from a trunk show.

LOL!  Seriously, I know the feeling.  But at least if you get 10% off, it's like getting the tax paid for.  Every little bit helps.  Also, not sure what Maggie you're looking for, but gals on Project Wedding are always selling theirs.  Another idea: some stores will sell you their sample gowns for 50% (or more).  It never hurts to ask about that.Good luck!

Another good way to find nice dresses cheaper is to buy the ones in store that are out of production. You can't order one in your size so hopefully they'll have something close and you can get little alterations if need be. I got a $1100 dress for $400 cause it's out of production :D but it's a size 4, while I am a size 2, so I'll need it taken in a bit.
