Maldives or St. Lucia?

We are between these two locations for our January Honeymoon. I am going to get scuba certified if we go to the Maldives (he already is), and may or may not for St. Lucia. We have 2 weeks for the honeymoon.

Has anyone been to either, or going to either? Any info would be helpful!

Re: Maldives or St. Lucia?

  • If I had to choose, I'd go Maldives - Maldives feels like an absolute once in a lifetime trip to me.  I wish we could choose Maldives...but we're heading to Antigua, and I love it all...but Maldives has always been #1 on my places to visit.  Best wishes!  :)
  • If you have the time and money - Maldives (no question)
Getting there is horribly frustrating as the flights are long.  But well worth it in the end.  Lots of people do a few days in Dubai since it is a popular layover spot anyway and then travel on to the Maldives.  There are some fabulous hotels and world renowned spas there.

    Have fun!!!!!!!!

  • Maldives hands down! We seriously considered going there for our HM, and have only heard amazing things. If you have the budget and the time, I'd definitely go there instead of the Caribbean, it'd be the trip of a lifetime. St. Lucia is beautiful, but it seems like everyone goes there for their HM, and the Caribbean is so much closer that it's much more realistic that you'd end up going in the near future anyway.
  • I have never been to either place, but I would 100% choose the Maldives without even a second thought.  If you have the budget, I would definitely do Maldives.  As others have said, that's a longer flight, more expensive, etc.  It's more likely that you would have another chance to visit the Caribbean than the Maldvies, IMO.

  • Thanks everyone! My FH is going to research specifics in terms of costs, and he'll make that final call, but this really helped!
  • Yes definately Maldives.  We decided to go to Moorea and Bora Bora because it is a once in a life time trip and we will probably go to the carribean many times.  It seems more special if the cost is do-able.
