Registry Items Received for Christmas

I'm receiving a few of the items off my registry for Christmas gifts.  I know I'm not supposed to use anything until after the wedding in case plans fall through and the gifts need to be returned, and that's not a problem.  Maybe a silly question that will make me look like a complete ignoramus, but since the items are fragile, should I go ahead and open the boxes to inspect the contents and make sure everything is intact?  Thanks!
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

  • Yes definitely if it will be too late to return by the time of the wedding. Also I think that since they were given to you for Christmas, you can use them now. Sounds like they just used your registry so they knew what you wanted, not so you could get a super early wedding gift. :)
  • Yes. Open to inspect and send the thank yous

  • They are Christmas gifts that happen to be on your registry. You can use them as they are Christmas gifts, not wedding or shower gifts.

Send thanks yous, as you should for any gift you receive - Christmas, birthday, shower, wedding, etc.
  • We received a bunch of stuff off our registry as Christmas gifts last year and happily opened and used them!
  • i agree with PPs.  Definitely open and inspect the gifts.

SInce they are Christmas gifts, and not early wedding presents, then by all means, send the appropriate thank you note, and start using them!
  • agree with all the PP's

  • For sure open and inspect. I did that with all of our gifts. And write thank yous! :)

  • I've never heard that rule about not using a wedding gift until after the wedding. That sounds a little nutso to me. I mean, how fragile are these relationships that the marriage might fall through before the actual wedding? I mean, if you're that concerned about the status of your relationship, you probably should reconsider. Otherwise, open your presents and enjoy!
