San Francisco candle permit?

Hello ladies, so I am trying to decide what kind of ceterpieces I want and I know I want to use candles. My venue is in San Francisco and they told me that if I want to use candles I have to get a permit from the fire department. OR I can use their candle holders that already have permits. They only have two options and while they are not bad, I'm feeling a little restricted.Has anyone else heard of this? Does anybody know how hard/easy it is to get a permit for candles in SF? Thank for all of your help!

I'm getting married in the city and my venue said that I could only use their votive candles.  The candles have to be fully enclosed up to the top of the flame.  I was pleasantly surprised at how nice my venue's were. Also have you considered battery operated votives?  Some can be nice.  As you can imagine, I had a nice candle centerpiece picked out and I had to go with option 2 because nothing worked.  Good luck!

We're getting married at Fort Mason in SF. They are getting the permit for us since our florist will be using candles to line the aisle. Maybe look on-line and see if you can find any info about the fire permits.

Fully enclosed doesn't seem that hard to do...I'm just worried about being limited in terms of centerpiece options. I guess I could always just do without candles...hmmm we'll see =)

Our caterer is willing to take any candles we might want to use to the fire dept. to get them OK'd.  What she told us was that the flame not only has to be completely enclosed, but that they'll test it by placing a tissue on top.  If the tissue doesn't ignite after 10 seconds, the candle is fine.Pretty crazy, huh?
