Name change and passport??

I got married 6/27 and am applying for my passport this week for a honeymoon trip- we are going to Florida next week and Costa Rica in October.Florida tickets are purchased with my OLD last name.  I have not changed my license because of the rule that your ID and ticket name must match. I WANT to apply for my passport with my NEW last name, but I can't start changing my name until after the florida trip, which is too long to wait for the passport.  Obviously the easy way is to not change my name until after both trips, but does anyone know if you can bring your ID and marriage license to get your passport with your new last name? (and yes I know I have to expedite my passport- MIL is paying :) )

    No, the name on your ticket must match the name on your passport. They won't let you board the plane otherwise... Sorry!

    Ditto PP. All the names must match.  Save yourself the trouble and wait til after the trip. I know it sux :(

    Can't you use your driver's license with your old name for Florida and your passport with your new name for Costa Rica? So change your name on your passport and get that process initiated before you leave for FL , but wait on the driver's license until after you get back? I am having similar dilemma and that was my plan.

    PP's are correct.  You can no longer use a drivers license (as a matter of fact, they don't even ask to see it as long as you have a passport).  ALL ticketing info MUST match what is on passport.  DO NOT do anything till both trips are over.  Once your trips are over log onto the passport website,print off the form to change name,fill it out,take a digital pic of yourself and print it out *the guide lines for doing so are right on the website* and your marriage license*they say original but I sent a color copy and it was fine* then send all that and your current passport to the address listed.  That's how I changed my name on mine and it took about 2 weeks. HTH

    Get your passport in your old name now. Then once you have your name changed, you have up to a year from when your passport was issued to get a new one in your new name for no charge.

    what name did you use on the tickets for costa rica?why can't you start the passport process until after florida? all that you have to do is fill out the papers, send with paperwork and 2 pictures and $. dont' see why it has to wait. but if your tickets to CR are booked in your MAIDEN name thenDONT change your passport.

    Please listen to PPs!  One girl on here didn't want to listen to anyone, she insisted she'd be fine.  And now I bet she is stuck in customs for days while they are trying to figure out the mess.

    You can use your driver's license for US trips, like flying to Florida. I don't understand why she can't initiate the passport change prior to the trip but not change her license until after Florida? Please tell me as I'm in a similar situation.
