Note: I wrote a post about a month ago about being disappointed with my engagement. It turns out, that was merely an informal engagement. He proposed again once we had the ring...
I am a musical theater actress currently performing in a show in Boston. On Thursday night I had a performance and many of my friends were coming that night, so my now fiance came that night as well. After curtain call, our director takes a moment to thank the audience for coming, ask for donations, sell tee shirts, etc. while we all stay on stage. That night he went through his typical spiel but at the end said "I seem to be forgetting something...is there a Kevin in the audience?" I went into shock immediately, knowing what must be coming.
Kevin came on stage and did a fake trip to fall on his knees in front of me. By this point, all of my fellow actors, along with the audience is going wild. He had a speech planned (I found out later) but all that came out was "If you aren't doing anything with the rest of your life, would you marry me?" I was so excited I just grabbed his face and kissed him. While the audience lost their minds, our director (on microphone) told them to be quiet...I hadn't said yes yet! I had completely forgotten. So I yelled "Yes! Yes! Of course, yes!" More cheering.
Kevin was so excited that he picked me up. He had forgotten there was a low hanging bar above the stage and bashed my head into it. I was okay (although I still have a little bump). He put me down and we kissed. Somehow the rest of the cast had cleared the stage at that point and so we turned to the audience, took a bow, and exited stage left.
As soon as we got off stage we were mobbed by my fellow actors and friends. It was amazing.
There was karaoke that night at the theater we were performing in and we stayed for drinks and more fun with our friends. I sang "Dream a Little Dream of Me", my favorite song, and also the first song Kevin had ever heard me sing.
It was a perfect night, with a perfect ring. He had already gotten his casual proposal in (which was what he always wanted) and I got my big splashy public proposal (which was what I always wanted).
Perfect.
Luckily, the show as being videotaped that night, and the videographer was let in on our secret, so we will have video soon!
