wedding prize scams

Also posted on the Chit Chat board but since I'm local I'd thought I'd ask here too:

So I apparently got entered into a wedding sweepstakes from 'Simplicity Gourmet', I haven't been to any wedding expos yet so the only other way I got entered was because knot sent my info to them (i'm not registered with any other wedding sites).

It's one of these things where you go to their little show, take a survey about their cooking products and they do a little cooking show for you and you automatically get prizes: 3 day/2 night trip, discounts on their products, discounts on other wedding stuff like invites etc etc.

I also know that these things can sometimes be a scam where you have to sign a contract to buy or use some of their services, even though they say on the phone you have no obligation to buy. But this is one company I haven't heard of yet.

Has anybody recieved  a similar invite/prize package from this company? Was it a scam or was it legitimate? Again the company name is 'Simplicity Gourmet'. Thanks in advance.

Yep, it's a SCAM in my book. I've legitimately won prizes before, and they don't make you jump through any hoops, they just send it out to you (with a bit of paperwork for taxes).  Simplicity Gourmet called me (David's Bridal sells your information to these  people BTW), and I told them that's great I won and put it in the mail, but of course they want you to come "pick it up"... I told them not to bother me again.

I got these calls as well.  I actually set a time to go pick up the prizes, then went and researched and realized what it was, and now I ignore their calls.  Getting good at recognizing the area code, but it's really annoying running across the house to grab my phone and seeing it's only them...

I have gotten a phone call form them 3 times in the last 2 hours!!! I was too busy to take their call. That alone raised a red flag in my book. So I decided to Google it. It does make sense that the info was sold by either The Knot or David's Bridal. Those are the only 2 that I have regisstered with, and none of my friends signed me up.

Disappointeing. The last thing i want to do is worry about scams while planning my wedding!!
