Just saw that you wanted the recipe. Im going to try to explain it best I can since I just do it by memory.
In a bowl mix: (This is your filling) Also- preheat oven to 350
1.5 lbs walnuts (diced)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
some lemon zest
In the pan add about 7 layers of phyllo, then 1/2 of the mix, another 5 layers of phyllo, the rest of the mix, and then 7 layers. You should use melted butter to help with the phyllo) This is where it gets tricky. With a knife (I use a pizza cutter) you cut diagonals all one way and then the other to make diamonds. Sort of like this: (I put whole cloves in the center of each to keep them from falling apart)

Then you bake. I do it by sight, its done when the phyllo starts to brown.
Once that is cooked, put it in the fridge to cook. Then start the syrup. In a sauce pot put:
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of water
1 cup of honey
1 orange cut in half facing flat side down in pan.
Let that boil then keep warm till the bakalava is cooled. Then pour over the bakalava like where you made the cuts so it gets absorbed. Then over the top. I use a big measuring cup to do this so i can evenly spread out the syrup.
My bakalava is really wet and sticky compared to most. I take the pieces out and put them in cupcake cups. Good luck!
