DOC?

Do you think it's worth it to get a DOC? My venue does not provide anyone to help out with the event, and so the alternative is getting someone in my family or bridal party to take charge. I don't really like that idea, because knowing my family, I think that will be super stressful.I think I am answering my own question, but just finding it hard to justify the $750 expense.

I had the same concern given the lack of staff at the venue. But it turned out that my caterers totally took care of everything. I gave them a timeline and dropped off several boxes of decorations beforehand. They set everything up, kept us all on schedule. They worked together with my DJ to keep all events of the evening flowing smoothly. There was even a lady there to hold my train as I walked through the garden on my way down the aisle. I would check with your caterer to see if they are willing to take charge in this way. If so, a DOC is probably not necessary.

Oh PS: My caterer also repacked up all my decorations at the end of the night and took them away. My parents picked up the boxes a few days later. Awesome. Not sure if you have a caterer yet, but I highly recommend mine!

YES.  I am so glad I have mine because she's making calls the week before the ceremony to confirm all my vendors, helping us run through the rehearsal, and getting things set up the morning of the wedding so none of the bridal party or parents has to do it.

SarahKate - I don't have a caterer yet, but I'm definitely going to check Atlantic out.Arbolita - yeah, that would be really helpful. I guess I'll have to see how involved the caterer would be, and then make the call.

No, you really don't need a DOC. In all honesty I really don't need one. My wedding is pretty small, and we could probably handle it ourselves. Thing is, I just don't WANT to. I want to get ready and enjoy the morning of my wedding without worrying about set-up.

I'm getting a month-of coordinator because of 3 things:1.  I can get very anxious and have a small panic attack (just planning ahead)2.  My Mom and 4/6 bridesmaids live across the country and I need some help during that last month here in MD3.  I want all of my bridal party and family to enjoy the day and not have to worry about anythingIt's a personal preference, but if you think you can do it on your own, go for it!  Just ask your vendors beforehand what they'll do to set-up and break-down.  Also, maybe there is a coordinator provided at your venue?HTH!

Yes for the reason ppl have said. My venue has a coordinator but she can be rather stressful. My mom doesnt want me to be stressed on my day so said she would handle her and everything. I didn't want my mom to have this stress and pressure on her and after talking to another fellow knottie who had her wedding at my venue she suggested her DOC who was an amazing help with the venue coordinator and EVERYTHING else. So I am now not as stressed knowing that everything the day of will be set up the way I want it to without me or my mom having to be there and we can just enjoy our day and night and not worry about packing stuff up and hauling it away at the end of the night also since my venue requires it be removed immed. following the wedding. So it is nice to not have that stress. My mom couldnt see the $ either (same price as you are looking at) but ever since meeting our DOC in person my mom and I both agree it was the best $ spent so far on the wedding. Sorry so long! HTH!

This is great advice. I know there have been lots of posts on DOCs lately, but those of you who are having planning help, who did you go with?

At first, my DH told me spending the $750 was the biggest waste of money, blah blah.  The day of, he completely changed his mind.  We were supposed to have a venue coordinator but come to find out she left our wedding early to go to her fathers birthday party, so we would have had no one with out my DOC.  She kept us on time, where we needed to be, had the entire place set up when I got there before the ceremony (ceremony & reception were at the same place).  If I had to do it all over again, I'd still hire one.  You do NOT want to rely on anyone in your family or BP to do all of that.  I can just see that being way more stressful. I used Heidi from Entertain Me Event Planning - Entertainme-de.com.  She is based in DE but travels to MD all the time for no extra fee.  GL!

IMO-YES!!! Get one! It was the best thing we did! I decided that there was no way I would want someone who was important to me to have to worry about doing it the day of. We also used Heidi and she did so much!

We used Heidi as our planner and she helped along the way. She was more that a DOC , i guess like a month of coordinator, although, she had no problems pointing us in the right direction along the way!
