For those of you who changed your name already......

Hey girls! How long did it take to get all your changed documents back (SS card and driver's license) after you get your certified copy of the marraige license??? If I already have the certified copy, do you think I could get all the other documents back in 2 weeks??? The reason I am asking is because they moved up the closing date on our house, and I need my name changed before then. The ROD in Wake County is already making an exception for me and I will get the certified copy by time I get home from the HM.

I'm not certain about how long it takes, etc, since I haven't been through the process yet!  However, we are planning to close on our house on 10/01, which is before our wedding.  The deed for the house will list both our names (me with my current, non-married name).  Our real estate atty told us that once we are married, nothing would need to be changed on the deed as it would legally indicate that we are married (once we are), my maiden name would just be on it rather than my married name.  He said as long as that didn't bother us it was no problem since it didn't make a difference in the legal sense.  HTH.

You can actually get the deed changed - I forget how much the attorney told us this would cost, but I remember it wasn't much and he said it shouldn't be too difficult.

I say definitely you will have time.  Although when I went, they were not mailing new licenses, I got mine on the spot.  SS card came in about a week.  You can get your license without the actual new card, you just need the letter from SS office saying that you went and applied for a new card with the name change.

Check with your DMV not all offices are offering same day service but I did overhear while my FI was renewing his that if he had to have his that day he could go to another office and they told the person which one. Just check with them and see.
