What are you doing instead of throwing birdseed...

...or blowing bubbles, or using sparklers... I'm trying to think of something different. I saw a wedding photo recently where the couple used those glow in the dark necklaces. It was really cute. The bride wore hers around her neck and the guests were twirling them around. Any ideas?

  • My mom had originally suggested that but then the FI said he would prefer clappers, so clappers it is. Oriental Trading even has special wedding bell ones too (that you can personalize even) if you want something that isn't neon colored. =P
  • Are you thinking about this at the end of your reception?  Because keep in mind that in many, if not most, cases now, the B&G are among the last to leave their receptions, so you'd have a pretty small group of people there. The days of the big dash through the thrown "stuff" into the car with the tin cans tied to bumpers pretty much has gone away.  I personally haven't seen that in years and years and years.Neither of my children did that.  They were at their receptions until all the guests left, and then helped to clean up/gather up things until they left for their hotels. And unless your ceremony is a night time ceremony, glow in the dark things won't show up in photos. Also remember that photos in magazines and on websites are staged photos, with countless takes to get just the right shot.I think clapping and cheering works beautifully.  It's free, easy, and not lame.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I like the idea of (real) rose petals. If the church, or FI, says no to that, then I'm not doing anything. I've only seen birdseed used at one wedding in the early 90s. Other than that, people just clapped on their own when the couple came outside.

  • We are using "FlutterFeti" confetti sticks for our bridal party to throw and bubbles for the rest of the guests as we exit out ceremony - outdoor wedding on farm. We are excited!
  • Kazoos! Yes!Our venue doesn't allow confetti, rose petals, anything that will get the place dirty. I like the noisemaker ideas.
