We did the Marriot downtown and La Quinta downtown to have two price points (all but 1 group stayed in Marriot).  I am SO glad we chose downtown.  Our guests had fun being down in the action.  We had happy hour at Iron Cactus one night, rehearsal dinner at Iron Works...they could walk to all.  We did however have a shuttle out to Star Hill.

I'm actually in the same boat right now.. kelseymw and I have talked back and forth but havent made arrangements. I have quotes from the Marriott downtown.. The Hampton Inn near the venue and the Mountain Star Lodge.. I need to price out shuttles to see if that is something that would fit into our budget and get quotes from a few other vendors. Anyway.. I know I'm not too helpful but my wedding is only a few months away so I will be making a decision very soon. If you want, I can forward you any quotes I receive over the next couple weeks?email me at:mattjenniwedding at yahoo dot com

I am thinking about the Hampton Inn and Mountain Star Lodge for sheer convenience reasons. Being the closest, and most economical, places to the venue I think it'll work better... since I have a guest list closer to 200 I don't even want to mess with the idea of a shuttle. Next weekend I am going to Austin and one of my "to dos" is to drive around the area to find any other hotels (that might not be on Adam's list). My dad got re-married 3 years ago in Austin and had a downtown hotel block with shuttle and it ended up being a hassle. The shuttle was going back and forth all night even though they had "pre-determined leave times", guests would miss it and it'd be stuck in traffic, etc. With a smaller guest list it might've worked better but with 150+ people it was a bit out of hand.
