Hyatt Regency/Newport- room blocks

Hi everyone- I am likely going to have my rehersal dinner at the Hyatt and was planning to do a room block there as well (wedding will be at Astor's). The rates I was given for July seem VERY high: 349 for Sat, 189 for Sun. Does this seem normal to everyone? Did anyone get better rates than this from the Hyatt? Any suggestions for more reasonable hotels in Newport? Thanks so much!

I'm afraid that the rates in Newport in the summer are all going to be around that range...and most of the hotels on weekends in the summer have a 2 night stay minimum....What a few of the girls that got married in Newport did was also set up a block in Middletown....This way they could stay where they wanted but still have a cheaper option available for their guests GL!

Those rates sound about right.  The weekend we are getting married is a holiday weekend so we aren't even able to get the reduced price for Sunday night.  Have you asked them to reduce the price at all?  We asked and they took off another $10 or $20 (I can't remember).  It wasn't as much as we asked for but it was something!Where are you having your rehersal?  We are doing a welcome cocktail hour/apps on the dock the night before our wedding.

I'm a Hyatt bride and the pricing on the room blocks is very high. We're getting married on a Friday night in early September, which brought the rate down a bit compared to a Saturday, but the rate is still around $315.  We're going to set up a block at either the Courtyard or Residence Inn in Middletown as well so that our guests will have a more inexpensive option.  HTH!

And in response to Danamarie, the rates are actually a little bit lower for blocks where the actual wedding takes place at the Hyatt. I should have added this before.  We also have a block at the Newport Beach Hotel & Suites ($279) and one at the Quality Inn ($254).  So far though it seems like most of our guests plan to stay at the Hyatt for convenience as we are getting married next door at Belle Mer.

we got a room block for 9/25 and 9/26 of this year and the rate is $269/night.  they told me that was considered peak season, so there was a 2 night minimum, but apparently late sept is much cheaper than July. we also got a block at best western $180/night Holiday Inn in middletown $149/night and we also put info for motel 6 in there too, at $106/night.

That's about right for the Hyatt.  I paid $385 a night last summer for my sister's wedding and that was for a Thur & Fri.  My sister also blocked off rooms in Middletown, but I can't remember which ones.  They were still around $200 a night.

Yes it is.  I used to work there and it wasn't uncommon for rooms to be quoted at around $200.  Try a bed and breakfast just up the rode.  I think it's called the Porter House?  or you can try the Harbor.

Hello...I rarely post (mainly because I have been a little slow on the planning front) but since I just finished my room blocks I wanted to share what I have so far. I apologize if this comes up as a duplicate post, as I was typing before I think I posted prematurely.   I'm getting married next summer in at the Hyatt on  a Friday, so we asked for some Thursdays at the Hyatt as well as 20 rooms for Friday. The rates vary based on size...Thursday starts at $189 and up, Friday starts at $319...for the few who may want to stay Saturday it is also $319.   I also set up (mostly Friday night only)  blocks at other places since the guest list is steadily growing with out of towners   Middletown Courtyard Marriott: $183 and $199 Hampton Inn: $179 on thursday, $259 on Friday for double queen....$195 and $275 (thurs and fri respectively) for a studio Residence Inn: $296 (studio suite), 1 bedroom ($314), 2 bedroom ($431) -- I stayed here for St. Patty's day this year and it is also very convenient ( had kitchens) and the rooms were pretty clean.  Newport Marriott on Americas Cup ave..: $269 (unfortunately they are the only one that required a 2 night stay so I am not sure how many people will book here) Comfort Inn: $269   They were all so nice to deal with and all my inquiries were quickly answered. A friend just told me that I should try a few b&b's because they are cheaper but I don't want to overdo it until all of these are full (which they probably will be). I am hoping that finding a DJ, photographer, a dress for me and bridesmaids, a cake, and all the other major details is just as smooth as doing this was! Hope this helps..

I don't think the B&Bs will let you block rooms in the traditional way without any obligation to pay if they aren't booked. Am I wrong? We blocked rooms at the Quality Inn in June and got a better rate that some of you: $109 (Thurs) & $189 (Fri/Sat). We also blocked the Newport Beach Hotel for $159 (Thurs) & $269 (Fri/Sat). For our more fancy guests we have the Hotel Viking $229 (Thurs) & $319 (Fri/Sat). I thought some of these prices were super high but it sounds like they are way lower than the Hyatt!

Here are our rates.  This is for July 4 weekend so obviously the highest rates of the season.  We have blocks for July 2 - July 5 at all hotels listed.Hyatt: $329Quality Inn: $254Newport Beach Hotel & Suites: $279So far the feedback from the majority of our guests is that they plan to stay at the Hyatt.  We are getting married at Belle Mer and the Hyatt is very convenient.  Not to mention the Hyatt is by far the nicest of these hotels and the best location for a weekend in Newport.  Many of our guests will not bother to rent a car when they fly in to Providence so the fact that the Hyatt is walking distance to downtown (and they have a boat and van shuttle) is very convenient.  I'm happy because I don't think that I will be providing guest transportation since most people won't need it!!

Hi,I am getting married next August and the reduced rate is $299 a night as they said that they can get anywhere between $300 and $500 during the summer, so luckily my friends are all for it since we live in the north end of the state.  So unfortunately that seems like the going rate.
