Married Ladies: Best Wedding Gift?

It's been awhile since I've logged on to the Knot, but I was married in July, and now my MOH is getting married in March. She has been working on a super creative wedding gift for myself and DH, and all I know is that she has been using power tools to construct it:) Therefore, I know I need to step it up when it comes time to give her a gift in March. But I need help! Have any of you received creative gifts, beyond the registry or cash? TIA!

I'm not married yet, but we've gotten a good amount of gifts so far.  My favorite gift was the KitchenAide, it's amazing.  We also love getting our place settings, because they are things we'll actually use.The most creative gift I got was a cute kit for our honeymoon, with bathing suits, massage certificate, a floppy hat for the beach, sunscreen, flip flops - it was the most adorable thing ever - and we both LOVE the thought that went into it!

Yes, we just received a gift from my friend which she made herself. She put our invitation in a very nice picture frame along with other wedding items scattered, but it looked very professional. It was soooo sweet and one that we will always remember.

Ditto previous poster on the sentimental or well thought out gifts.  My hands down favorite gift was from my grandma. She gave us her silver service for 12. She then included a plaque on the silver chest that had my grandparents initials and wedding date and our initials and wedding date. Is there anything she is passionate about? For instance, if she likes cooking, could you give her a nice pan and a gift certificate for a cooking class? If she likes art/photography, can you find a piece from one of her favorite artists and frame it? Etc...

My Greek Mom bought us an in-room hour massage the day after our wedding for our honeymoon suite. It was amazing! I would highly recommend the gift.

We only got 2 gifts at the wedding (the rest was cash) but we got pretty much everything at the shower. We got the animal Dyson vacuum & the Kitchen Aide mixer. Both were awesome! But I think the best gift was one of the MIL's friends got us the wine chiller we registered for but then also made us a case (12 bottles) of their homemade sangria and told us to drink one a month on the 1st to celebrate each month of our first year of marriage. That was the most special gift!

One of the partners my husband works for gave us a spectacular Steuben menorah which is beyond gorgeous and something we never, ever would have purchased for ourselves. Too bad it can only be used 8 days of the year and otherwise sits in a display case.

Good friends of ours knew we were going to Maui for the honeymoon, so her and her husband got us a $200 gift certificate for Mama's Fish House (which is one of the best restaurants on the island), they made the reservations for us and requested a specific table.  Then, when we got there, there was a gift waiting on the table with a card.  Inside were 2 mai tai glasses from the restaurant, so we had a keepsake of the night. It was so well thought out, it was definitely our favorite gift.  We were so touched that they did all that planning.  It was really neat!

Wow, there have been some phenomenal gifts out there! We had two handy friends make us a set of hand painted bags games (cornhole for the Iowa folks) that have our favorite sports teams on them and a hillybilly golf set (with the three tiers). It was nice to have something homemade and they definitely get a lot of use. If you're spending a little less, I like the gift baskets based on the couples interests. Some I've given/received have been:Date Night (Dinner/Movie GC, fillers like popcorn, fuzzy blanket to cuddle with, wine, hot chocolate, dessert GC, etc)Honeymoon Kit (based on the honeymoon, sunscreen and new beach towels or hiking gear, etc.)Wine Kit-Our favorite! (Two bottles of wine, 3 month wine club spread out over six months, set of four nice glasses and a decanter.) One of my friends (who is a little tight on cash and still in school) gives her friends IOUs for decorating/organization services for their new houses. I'm sure her friends appreciate spending a little time with her and she is REALLY good at what she does. Good Luck!

I think the best gift is something well thought-out and meaningful to the bride/couple.  My favorite gift was from my sister.  She got us the Swarovski crystal toasting flutes that I wanted for my wedding since I was about 16 and couldn't afford.  She also arranged for our DOC to switch them out with the ones I bought, so we had them for our first toast at the wedding.  It's the only gift that made me cry.

My sister got 2 place settings of bright red china. There was a card inside that said they were to be used on "red letter days" - to celebrate a new promotion, birth of a baby, etc. There was also a notebook included so they could include the date and what they were celebrating so they could look back over the years on all their important dates they celebrated together. I thought that was a really neat idea. Jamie, I'm totally jealous - Swarovski flutes are my big splurge... I hope.

I am not crafty at all, but I have one friend, in particular, who is amazing at scrapbooking!  For one of my showers, she gave me an empty scrapbook with paper, stickers, labels, etc., in our wedding colors.  There was a note with it that said to give it back to her after the wedding along with several pictures from the big day and she would put together the scrapbook.  The finished product is amazing!  I may even like it better than our formal wedding album!  She did something similar for the recent birth of our daughter.  She put together a scrapbook with themed pages (holidays, milestones, etc.) and all I have to do is place the pictures on the page!

My favorite gift was from my Mom's friend.  She gave us this little frog (shown in the link below) with a note inside it.  Totally unexpected and totally sweet.  I've also seen these frogs (and other little animals that are "boxes") at Macy's, Younkers, etc.  You can find them all over.  I have given this as engagement gifts and I'm giving it as a supplemental wedding gift (in addition to my regular gift) to all my close friends/family in the future.  I absolutely love it. http://www.amazon.com/Monet-Enamel-Frog-Keepsake-GREEN/dp/B00080F8LI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1252006228&sr=8-2This is the note that fell out of the frog when we opened it:"I can hear it right now..."what is this thing?" Well, here is the story. We all like surprises and especially if they are done with love. Use this frog to "send" love notes to each other! Yes, that's right...Jen, you write a short note and tuck it inside your "frog", then you hide it some place - a place Jim would use (the vehicle glove box, his underwear drawer, behind his deodorant!) A hug and kiss are sure to follow! Then Jim, your turn...write a note and hide it for Jen - you don't do it daily, well you can but eventually you do it when the other least expects it! A healthy marriage needs little love notes now and then. And oh what a great feeling to find a note and read how much you mean to each other. May god bless your marriage forever"

My sister got us our favorite gifts. Framed pictures of our parents on their wedding days.  She is an artist and also created a painting for us and had it framed. My best friend from high school sprung for a prewedding massage. It was awesome.
